Latin book I found today, seems good:

If you're going to study Latin with the Familia Romana book it might be worth checking out the many complementary books, they're kind of necessary after a while. This is one of them:

No, I haven't looked at Russian much yet, but it seems interesting. I know Russian past-tense verbs inflect for gender which is rare I think, and I know predicative adjectives in Russian inflect to agree with the noun they're modifying, Latin does this too but German doesn't.

Here's Elfdalian, an archaic language spoken by a few thousand people in Sweden. Very different from Swedish which is an analytic language like English, Elfdalian is inflected like Old Norse. They even used runes into the 20th century according to one source.

English forgoes unnecessary declensions and genders in favor of an expanded vocabulary.

>babby's first language
actually it's the opposite. English is the result of centuries of selection applied to the sum of all Western European languages and their phonologies. Whatever was useful (like more words) was retained and whatever was unnecessary (like declensions and gendered nouns) was tossed. The only issue is that many of the words don't sound like how they're spelled.

English wasn't a scholarly language until recently. It was Latin for most of Europe for a very long time. As late as the 19th century Latin and Greek were referred to as the learned languages, while English, French etc were referred to as vernacular or vulgar languages. English simplified around the time of the Norman invasion and hasn't recovered since. Study classical languages (Latin and Greek), they're called classical for a reason, just like classical music is.

say you are learning 50 cards a day. Thats 50 new card + reviews. If you slacked with the reviews it builds up and suddenly you will have way too many reviews to do new cards. Thats the risk with anki you are not allowed to stop more than a day. Its not hard to catch up again but it takes some time.

this. anything that isn't english is largely irrelevant outside of the countries and/or ethnic enclaves they are still used in.
the only time they're not is when you need to foster economic cooperation. doing business in china? better learn chinese. doing business in russia? in poland? in mexico? better learn those.
or unless you plan on moving to and settling in one of them, in which case it's just polite.
