The white house is from 1800 (began construction in 1792).
The East wing is an addition from 1902.
It also happens to be a pretty ugly building from that era.
Depending on what replaces it, this might have been a good choice.

But the chances are pretty high that we instead will get some jew triangles in concrete and blue tinted glass.
So final verdict will have to wait.
