In my opinion, as a casual observer, I would prefer to live in a compassionate society which supports its elderly, its infirm and would happily provide a couple months relief for people who have paid into the system for years, while they navigate through some temporarily unfortunate circumstances.

However, with all compassionate endeavours, there will always be some element of piss taking, but when you have a mostly honorable society that considers welfare to be a desperate last resort, then the good vastly outweighs the bad.

When honorable and compassionate societies are deliberately flooded by those without honour, without shame with those responsible, who are similarly parasitic in nature, encouraging them to "take" what they can, these systems become an increasingly unsustainable burden on the rest of society.

Its sad.
