School. Jobs (actual jobs, not retail shit). Places like malls, arcades, internet cafes weren't clogged with bums and browns. The nation was above 80% White back then. You could "be". Things could be borrowed, taken away from their place of origin, and be reasonably expected to be returned when no longer needed. Strangers could be given rides, walked up to and talked to without a lingering fear of hostility. Things were built more solidly, looked more pleasant, tasted better. We have fallen so far in 30 years that people who weren't alive on 9/11 are nostalgic for the 2000s. It's... it's bad.

Tv was mostly infomercials and boring old timey shows unless it was the weekend, so sitting around at home was the last thing anyone wanted to do.
Even with gaming systems it wasn't our whole day or life during the week, unless it was with friends
Bus rides to downtown were cheap and mostly nigger and spic free in the 90s(unless you were in NY/LA)

I used to wander around at nights on weekends as a child and go hang out with Gen Jones/old Xers(they were like 15-22) that I saw catfishing by a canal or off a drain way/bridge

I still have nostalgia for the song, but even before its release those lyrics were cringe and unrepeatable. Nobody went to “crash the mall” and we all laughed about how stupid it was. It’s only now that we view that dumb lyric as something adorable from when we were young. There was no “mall culture” that we lost, at least by that point.
