It's a combination of things that make it disgusting.
>1) - We generally are selective on which type of foods we eat with our hands. Sandwiches and burgers make rational sense since those foods were basically designed to eat with hands, for a purpose, going back to the Earl of Sandwich. We do eat some types of barbequed meat but those are almost always foods that have a significant bone component to it like ribs or wings and those are sort of special foods that are allowed to make a mess out of.
>2) - We wouldn't eat a pile of slop and rice because it's impractical and disgusting.
>3) - Seeing an Indian doing it, we are often unwittingly imagining they have poo on their hands while eating their slop.
Seeing a white person engaging in #2 would still disgust me, just less so because I don't imagine they have feces on their hands.
