For the first 100 years of the existence of the USA, there was no border enforcement. Anyone could enter the USA as they pleased and could remain free as long as they did not break the law. The only restriction on immigrant citizenship was race, whites entering the USA could become automatic citizens.

>Bernie has long endorsed border control and immigration restriction because he sees immigrants as threats to the income to unionized employees.

Yeah, that was his position up until the 2016 election. Then he cucked and fully endorsed Democrat open borders neoliberalism. He further endorsed this in 2020 by telling people to vote for Biden and saying Trump is evil. And he did this a third time in 2024 by telling people to vote for Kamala and saying that electing Trump would be bad.

I am glad that Bernie has apparently come to his senses again but it really just makes him seem wishy-washy and unprincipled, which is a shame, because he was one of the few politicians on either side who otherwise had a consistent message throughout the years.

I will admit it is a shame what the DNC did to him, and I'm sad we never got to have a Bernie vs Trump debate

One of the major impediments to the USA's growth and power is a lack if immigrants, especially the lack of white immigrants.

If the USA opened its borders, this would dramatically strengthen the USA by increasing labour and talent pools.

He's always been for it. Look at old pre-2011 clips. But he's a weak leader and went with the flow during the culture war. So he doesn't deserve to lead. Even if crushed, he would be the standard bearer on the dem side right now. They have no leader and he'd be different.
He knows you can't have comfy Scandinavian welfare state without borders and lack of remittances. The math doesn't work without high taxes and the spending vat/sales tax. So remittances denies half of the systems tax money. You endlessly try to cycle it.
You also need protectionism on trade. And domestic production/even trade. And high property tax to discourage foreign investment on certain properties.

> Why have an open border policy and risk letting in the wrong people?

Because that gives the wrong people in charge the ability to choose to bring in more wrong people, and refuse the right people. An open border allows everyone to come in, compete, and weed out the wrong people.

The wait list for the right people is gigantic, many right people don't even bother because the USA effectively turns them away.

The welfare system has been an impediment, not the browns themselves. Most of the browns are still productive and otherwise law abiding. Meanwhile, it's nearly impossible for white and Asian immigrants to get in legally and so all the USA gets is browns.

Yeah, as I said, he betrayed his original convictions in 2016 to avail himself to the anti-Trump crowd. Even as late as 2015 he was in favor of strong borders. Here he is on VOX in July 2015 (barely a month after Trump announced his candidacy) saying that "OPEN BORDERS IS A KOCH BROS PROPOSAL"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf-k6qOfXz0

He literally said right wingers would love to have open borders because then you could pay people 2 or 3 bucks an hour instead of giving jobs to American youth which had high unemployment rates in 2015.

Here is his 30 minute speech on the Senate floor on why he was voting against the bill that would've given amnesty to illegal immigrants or provided a guest worker program. George W. Bush and many Republicans were in favor of this at the time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC7r8cqupxs

Bernie in 2013 speaking against more immigration:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvEfCsSFueg

Here's Bernie on Lou Dobbs in 2007 explaining why we need strong borders and should not allow more illegal immigrants to work in the US:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZS3yGJEKMw

And here he is in this video 2020 clip compared to 2007 clip showing how he flip flopped on his views:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNSnhnoNY7s

It's really sad. Bernie used to be pretty based on immigration. Had he stuck to his guns, we could've had bipartisan effort to reduce immigration and build the border wall. Unfortunately though, Bernie made the calculation that the left would likely abandon him if he kept spouting the same things Trump was saying, so he cucked.

I had a lot of respect for Bernie until he cucked out on this and until he cucked out and endorsed Hilary

Browns commit crime, but they commit crime almost exclusively among themselves.

Browns have lower IQ, but that makes them suited for low skilled labour.

Browns have nepotism, I don't care. Nepotism just means an organization hires less competitive employees. Let the browns sink their organizations.

Almost all Asians of every kind have higher IQ than whites (albeit not as well applied), lower crime than whites, and are more productive than whites.

>borders are arbitrary
but they literally aren't. They mark the extent of a nation's power projection, which is why they are often located along defensible positions such as rivers, mountain ranges, oceans, etc.
Of course if technological, culture, race, etc. change and tip the scale in favor of one side of the border over another (such as the decline of the west) then you see borders for the weaker nation shrink or disappear altogether while the stronger nations expand.

All of these foreigners create a more foreign, more brown, more Asian society. One prone to failure. Asiatic eccentricities are not going to build a spacefaring civilization. Everything gets worse with more foreigners, more browns, yellows. They don't belong in white countries beyond the socioeconomic equivalent of a tropical bird in a cage or a weird animal in a zoo.

The data is out. We pretended go along with the insane people who wanted a brown hoard to rule over, and the data was collected. Browns go back. Also the archetypical bureaucrat rule by committee technocrat thing doesn't work, and people like that will never be allowed decision making power ever again,

he didn't flip flop, you are just dumb. The point that leftists always make is that problems don't arise from immigrants but from companies who lobby governments into lowering wages and conditions of workers in every way possible. Mass immigration is just a way to bring in workers with less rights to complain about bad conditions. What he is saying in that video is not to blame and focus on the immigrant/minority cause that's bullshit for retards.

Irrelevant. Quality of life matters more than skin colour of the neighbor. Only the low class whites will have to deal with the low class browns.

> One prone to failure.

Asian countries tend to be stable. Provided they are not currently under a communist dictatorship, they tend to be extremely high performers.

> Asiatic eccentricities are not going to build a spacefaring civilization.

Multiple Asian countries are now major space players. Even Honda is sending rockets into space, surpassing milestones that took Elon's SpaceX years to complete.

People always stratify based on wealth. Whites make more wealth and therefor settle into the higher strata. This always happens in every country that race demographics have mixed.

Okay so? That's the same argument that Trump and those on the right make about mass immigration. It lowers wages and really only benefits big business.

Of course though, it does also benefit the Democrat party, because if/when they do get amnesty, they'll end up voting Democrat (see: California). And also, illegal immigrants can vote in local elections in many municipalities, which can also benefit Democrats.

You're dumb if you're on /pol/ and you don't think that most people here oppose mass migration because it is economically and culturally destabilizing

Not really, as per my previous posts linked above, Bernie was against Open Borders as late as summer of 2015. I don't know exactly when he changed but the short answer is that once Trump started getting popular and it was clear he was a serious force, Bernie switched and became in favor of open borders. Even though Trump's primary complaints about illegal immigration had to do with crime and economics, and the economic arguments was practically identical to what Bernie had been saying for years, decades even, Bernie decided to drop this issue. Most likely he talked with consultants who explained to him that the Democratic base, especially the youth , were extremely in favor of open borders. Thus, in order for Bernie to have a chance in the 2016 Dem Primaries, he had to adopt the open border stance in order not to be a fringe candidate. If Bernie had remained against Open borders, Hilary would've branded him as a racist, and frankly that is what happened to an extent. He disavowed his previous positions, but she did bring it up

>Sanders hit Clinton with her infamous bungled answer on drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants in a 2008 Democratic primary, which has continued to haunt her long after she walked it back

>Clinton countered with Sanders’ vote against a 2007 immigration law backed by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. Sanders said he voted against the law because it included a guest worker program that many Latino and civil rights group opposed

>Then the senator fired back by bringing up Clinton’s comments during the 2014 border crisis that Central American children should be sent back. And Clinton returned fire by noting Sanders voted for a bill favored by the Minutemen movement, the vigilantes who patrol the U.S.-Mexico border
