Let me clarify the claim I'm making:

Slavs did not participate in creation of whiteness - they didn't have overseas colonial empires, were not considered as equals in Western racial hierarchies, were treated by Westerners as fair game for colonization and extermination efforts, and haven't thought of themselves in racial terms in native political thought (although in 19th - 20th century they started increasingly aping the West). Slavs having European phenotype and genetics has little to do with what actually matters when we talk about whiteness.
It's not by chance that Slavs who tried to assert their Whiteness the most had to invent non-slavic heredity for themselves (Roman for Romania, Germanic for Croatia).
