They declared war on us! Why did FDR want to go to war with Germany so badly? They were a bigger threat than Japan was. Japan had almost no logistical capability compared to the other players in WW2. Germany could theoretically be a problem down the road if not addressed, and it was better to use the USSR manpower before it wiped them out completely.

That really wasn't an issue until the post war period. Most people didn't care about their ideology until they started invading places. Even fewer understood it beyond a surface level. People tend to forget that none of the Allies liked jews either. We refused to take the German jews when they were trying to exile them.

Because Britain was single handily fighting Germany alone and leading the free world into the sunlit uplands. The US were being chickenshits, so Japan thought they'd have a crack. Germany allied with Japan, so you were now in it whether you liked it or not.

Going into ww2 ...warring is waht european stock countries have had done for centuries. We battled amongst ourselves

So america didnt think it was going into an event that would kill off euro centricism. They thought germany would come after them too so they got to work to be the victors.

And the aftermath was winning so much it threw things out of balance and leftists somehow benefitted the most from the victory. And here we are at the back of the line

People say america shot itself in the foot by killing the good guy. Thats easy to see after the dust has settled but in the moment its what it had been for a long time. Kill or be killed and you only option is to fight

If you mean - why was the US against Germany from the beginning of the war, and already participating to some extent even before Germany declared war on it - the main reason, I think, was that it needed influence on the two ends of the Eurasian supercontinent. That is, it didn't want the western coast of Europe subordinated to Germany (it wanted to preserve England as it was, as an independent ally, it wanted access to the Azores base, and access to the Mediterranean), and it didn't want China falling to Japan. Both coasts were united politically through Britain, since Britain had Hong Kong and had political and commercial influence in China. We can also add France, which had the Indochina colonies, which were too under attack from Japan. In the middle you had the USSR, which also had beef with Japan, and India, under Britain, and which nears the Malacca straight, another important objective.

So, when you tally this all up, what was really happening was that the conflict was much broader than just over Germany's neighbors, and the US was conscious of its new role in the world as a rising world power and/or already experiencing the effects of threats on these strategic hotspots around the world.

In the long term the US can not possibly compete with eurasia (what the axis wanted). Instead of a fractured europe plus Japan you would be competing with 2 other continents and 2 less allies (USSR and UK). Im assuming if the US stayed idle throughout the entire conflict.
