Knives and gloves have absolutely tanked in price since the update, with some skins losing over $15,000 in value in a single day. Users are desperately trying to cash out or swap their skins for something else before the market holds on the newly generated items expire and the market is flooded with new, cheap knives.
A talon knife doppler is now trading for roughly $800 AUD, or just $525 USD. Which is insane.
Popular YouTubers have taken to their platforms to complain about the new update and express their intent to quit the game. Many well known traders have sold off their entire inventories and are vowing never to trust Valve again or hold any sort of high value in Steam ever again. Steam may even remove trading altogether.

it is not in valves best interest to have extremely expensive skins since those are traded through third party websites and they cant take a cut from, what is essentially, player to player trades. valve wants skins to be traded through the marketplace where they take a 15% cut, this update made that clear.
to be more exact, the 15% "cut" is meaningless to valve in the traditional sense. turning real money into steam funny money is what valve wants since they both own the game and the ecosystem. the 15% cut simply removes 15% from the steam funny money ecosystem, which then needs to be replaced by new real money coming in.
for players to be willing to actively trade in an ecosystem that has a flat 15% tax tied to it, unit prices must be cheaper on average. counter strikes main playerbase is eastern european meaning they have less money to spend on something like this to begin with.
this wont be the end. valve will keep releasing updates like this (in valve fashion, over months and years) and if youre retarded enough to "buy the dip" youll be left holding the bag eventually.

All valve economies are doomed to add new items to keep the profits rolling for each game, meaning they eventually need item sinks for undesirable stuff that only depreciates with every new unboxing event. You either have high-frequency trades for cents straining the servers like with trading cards, complete stagnation without any utility (like with most trading card rewards), or you give people an incentive to remove all the unwanted shit for a chance to get something better.
