Twelve Years Ago, SNAP malfunctioned for two hours
Due to a glitch, SNAP cards were not displaying spending limits in Louisiana. Because of this, establishments were not accepting SNAP. Everybody, except for Walmart. Walmart corporate ruled that they weren't going to send anybody home hungry, and that Walmart associates were to process all purchases as though the SNAP customer had a sufficient balance to cover them.
Chaos ensued. The Welfare queens took to social media, called all their friends, and they stormed the Walmarts. They pushed. They shoved. They loaded to the brim several carts each. Long lines formed and the cashiers had to ring up every single loaded cart. In some Walmarts, the shelves were completely bare. All meat was gone.
Two hours later, the glitch was fixed, and EBT cards began displaying balances again. Once again the Welfare queens took to social media and to calling/texting their friends, this time to warn others that the freebies were over. What did they do? They all walked away from their carts and out of the stores. (pic related)
This is the kind of thing that is going to happen nationwide if the government does not open today and replenish SNAP. These people aren't going to walk into Walmart, take what little they need, and leave with that without paying, oh no. They are going to push, and shove, and load their carts. And with it being Halloween today, they might get started early if the government does not open before tonight.
