The Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings be upon him) went out, before the Migration, to the outskirts of Mecca and drew a line for me and said: “Do not say anything until I come to you.” Then he said: “Let nothing you see terrify you or alarm you.”
He advanced a little and then sat down, and behold there appeared black men as if they were the men of al-Zutt. And they were, as Allāh the Exalted says, almost about to overwhelm him completely. I intended to rise and drive them away from him as far as I could reach, but then I remembered the Prophet’s injunction, so I remained sitting.
Then they dispersed from him, and I heard them say: “O Messenger of Allāh, our journey is long and we are setting out — give us provisions.” He said: “For you is the rajiʿ, and whatever bones you come upon — the meat upon them is for you, and whatever dung you come upon is for you like dates.”
When they turned away I asked: “Who were these?” He said: “These are the jinn of Nisibis (al-Naṣībīn)."
