The US has a big underground economy of underpaid mostly foreign workers who have to be paid in untraceable cash. If the digital dollar is forced it might have a negative impact on DNC voters so they will take their time phasing out cash. But its already becoming common in many stores for cash payments to be discouraged in favor of cards at self checkout stations which allows them to save money on cashiers and make up for the cut the card companies take.
