It’s easy to create division and animosity between any two groups. Just give both groups the idea that they are being abused in some way by the other.

Yep, it does. But more practically, it means those kids get too much mothering, too little fathering. Father is supposed to be the teacher of the family unit. Teaching how to navigate negative feelings, how to handle risk, how to push through difficulty.
