you can do the math yourself. Just compare californias medicaid (medi-cal)s total budget and divide it by the number of people on it, then compare that to the national average of healthcare cost. Medi-cal is around 20% cheaper last i checked, and that includes the cost of running the associated beurocracy, whereas the private numbers we have exclude that so its going to be even cheaper.

We also know this from the past, where the entire argument lobbyists made against allowing medicare to negotiate prescription prices was that it would be too hard for private insurance to compete with medicare since they are so big they have way more leverage with pharma companies. This is why in the past medicare was barred from negotiating and instead had to use a number based off of what private insurance was getting. Trump put an end to this in his first term, saving medicare a lot of money.

So we have one side saying private healthcare can not compete with government healthcare so we need to kneecap the government, and the other side saying private healthcare can not compete with government healthcare so we should have government healthcare.

The republicans solution seems to be just cut funding, make aca cost more for people, kick people off medicaid, and let the rest of the system go on as it currently does. That is not a solution that is going to get those 100 million votes.

Insurance companies have many people whos only job is to see to it that they pay as little as possible. Its medicaid that spends less effort on this and just cuts the check. I know this first hand, its way rarer to encounter unanticipated insurance hassle with medicaid. Yet despite this, despite medicaid caring LESS than private insurance on penny pinching, they end up costing less overall because they do not need to make a profit for shareholders.

You don’t seem to understand what a contract is. Yes, the insurance company is willing to pay more than the individual payer. No, the insurance company isn’t interested in keeping costs low because they have deals with the pharmaceutical companies that help them manage costs.

You simply don’t understand how industry works nor how these large companies operate. This truly explains why you see no issue with single payer. You don’t know how it will shape up and are unaware that the healthcare companies that control the market today will end up controlling the market under single payer.
