They don't even understand what it means to tax wealth and how wealth is calculated. The top most wealthy people don't hold liquid assets, they have stocks and documents that show they technically own land and factories.
If you were going to tax Elon Musk's wealth, his wealth comes from Tesla, SpaceX etc stocks. Taxing his wealth would mean the government just confiscates a portion of stocks and now the government owns a significant portion of these big companies.
A lot of people's wealth is land, so what do you want to do? Take the land that this rich person is using for producing goods and just take it away and then feed the land to the poor? Turn the useful productive land into useless government property?

Leftists are stupid. They don't think these things through.
If leftists were even slightly smarter they would instead look at what systems were used to acquire this wealth and change the law so you couldn't do unethical things to get wealthy. For example they could ban lobbying that allows the rich to bend the law to help them get rich. They could go after stock trading and arrest people for insider trading and manipulating the stock market. They could break up monopolies by going after copyright laws.
