Just don't show up and pretend you never received the letter in the mail to do so. They're not going to waste time arresting you for a contempt of court charge that amounts to a $100 fine, especially if you just argue the letter must've got lost in the mail or something. How are they going to prove otherwise if you destroy it?

It's not a big deal. Just make up a reason why you'd be prejudiced against whoever the defendant is when you're asked about it in court. The best option is to say you've previously been a victim of whatever crime the defendant's accused of which immediately makes you non-viable.
