Japan is decaying hard. Technology is sole reason why they're relevant, and they're rapidly falling behind. Otherwise they have nothing else. Their demographics are shit, their geography is also shit, they have very little farmland or natural resources and they're surrounded by nuclear armed unfriendly states. Tech is the sole reason why they have been so successful over the last century, and they're basically losing everything across the board. There's basically zero areas of the cutting edge that Japan is leading in. Taiwan has TMSC, SK has Samsung, America and China has dozens of leading edge companies in basically every field, even Europe has Airbus, Deepmind and ASML. Japan has....

Even their cultural exports are falling behind SK and China. At this rate, Japan is gonna to become a 3rd world nation within the next 20 years, alongside the UK. The next thailand, only relevant as a tourism and sex resort.

Just like companies like toyota and nintendo, all all due to their old reputation, nostalgia and decades old IP. There hasn't been a lot of big hits in the last 10 years, compared to the 80s/90s/2000s. Manga wise, they're trying desperately to find something that can rival One piece or Naruto for years without any success. J-pop is lot less popular compared to a decade ago, same for their live action films and TV series. Anime is still quite popular, but it's pure slop this days.

And holy shit, anime is the purest example of how Japan cannot adapt to new tech. They are still unmatched in 2D animation, but their 3D animation is horrible, even in 2025, despite them trying to improve for years and years. Well funded studios 3D's animation look worse than what a American/European students can make. Like holy shit, how is Japan still so bad in 3D animation?
