They also cost a lot more than nvidia's GPUs to make, so they're no where close to competing with nvidia right now.

It's possible China might win due to its planned economy and targeting stuff like that but I wouldn't take it as a given especially not if fuckfaces like Nvidia guy who injects AI money into his ass warns it could happen. He's got so much to gain from it. Maybe if he said, "China will win, we should give up" it might be worth something because that'd just hurt and look incompetent.

I'll also add on that the biggest market for server GPUs in China are smuggled RTX 4090s that have been modified to have more vram (It's illegal to sell RTX cards over a base X070 to China). Nvidia is apparently very aware of the GPU black market but turn a blind eye to it since it more sales = more money.
The apparently don't go for 5090s because they're harder to modify.

GPUs are secondary. it's moreso about energy right now. the real bottleneck that companies like meta or amazon are facing isn't about the GPUs. it's about the energy and china's, like, absolutely killing it with its solar production. not to mention that trump blue-balled nvidia out of selling its chips to china. big mistake. huge.

Yea no joke.
China will be very slow about it, because before now they've pretty much copied everything we've done. But having done that, they're exploring the new frontiers.
However the USA is a heavily capitalist country, and as such they fear monger AI, we aren't producing a new fusion reactor like China or working on free or better energy, and China is already ahead in robotics.
Why? Because all these things combined breaks capitalism.
When free energy fuels robots with advanced AI they do all the jobs and there'll have to be something like universal basic income.
That's socialism. Not capitalism. Capitalism demands people work all their lives for chump change. And again it's why our capitalist country scare monger's AI constantly, they're hesitant to create or employ robots, and where's our energy experiments? They don't exist. Capitalist countries, especially the USA, will drag it's heels into the future kicking and screaming. So it's left up to China but as I said before, they'll be kind of slow about it.
But the future will come one way or another and when it does capitalism won't exist in that environment because it can not.
