I've sacrificed quite a lot for the greater good, and recieved nothing but misery and misfortune in return. And if I had the chance to go back I'd do it again. You don't do good things with the expectation that good things will happen to you, you do good things to uphold your moral integrity. Real courage is knowing that doing the right thing could have serious consequences and doing it anyway. There's a lot of injustice out there and disingenuous niceties are just avoiding the real problems in the world.
