some republicans are ideologically opposed to all forms of welfare and hate poor people, even though its their own economic policies which produce poor people. This is probably why they hate them, it points out that their system does not work.
Due to this they are making the same mistake the left often makes by being fanatical about some specific worldview and assuming everyone sees their strange perspective as just common sense, then getting selfrighteous about it.
Trump, unfortunately, had to compromise with these people for internal party politics. I believe this is trumps sin here, he is trying to compromise with fanatics.

they are trying to skirt the line in the most ridiculous way. If you want this kind of system then just send people monthly food shipments. The whole reason the current system is in place because the right has this belief in the market and consumers deciding things driving market calculations, and so they want people to make choices and so just give them food specific money to do it with because they see that as good for the economy. It is an actual ideological contradiction for the same people who believe this to also believe in more government beurocracy micromanaging peoples foodstamp spending. If they want to do that it would be cheaper to do it the way i suggested above, but this would probably be too much government involvement for their taste.

Its not a point. Criticizing the overall quality of US healthcare is one thing. I agree, the whole thing needs a reform in many ways. People are still better off being able to see doctors, get prescriptions and treatments than just not having any healthcare at all. Most people use healthcare for mundane medical reasons. The failing health in the US is more about our food and lifestyles than the medical system.
