He has, though, and I think that's precisely why he's been allowed more prominence. If you listen closely to a lot of the interviews he's been doing, he has explicitly said things like "my views have softened over time" or "I've actually become a bit more liberal on some things".

Beyond that, compared to the alt-right of ~2017 or so, he's much softer. He's vehemently anti-violence, isn't explicitly natsoc/fascist/third-positionist/white nationalist, argues our demographic issue is "baked in" and "we just have to learn to live with it", aggressively pushes Christianity on his viewers (and cucked mainline Catholicism at that, he's very critical of "trad" Catholicism), and so on. It would make sense that he's viewed as the lesser of two evils, and tactically allowed to represent the far-right. He's also got a ton of baggage that they can trot out against him at any time, which will, in turn, undermine all the based things he's pushing for anyway.
