Without sounding mad, can a Trump supporter on this board please explain why you guys suddenly support Muslim terrorists?

What is the alternative? Ignore him, disavow him, invade, what? He isn't going away, and he has seemingly won the conflict. Terrorists often win civil wars, and they go on to be incompetent leaders after the conflict ends. It shouldn't be our position to be the arbiter of who is or isn't the leader of a sovereign nation recovering from civil conflict. They paid in blood to lead themselves, and all we can do is try to help them succeed or leave that vacuum open to one of our competitors.

At the very least.

Because he ended up as the lesser evil and legitimate head of a nation, and Trump's not one for starting long winded pointless wars.

That is a valid standpoint, but I disagree with it. Our support legitimizes him, and by making that decision, we put ourselves in a position to influence how he leads. If we disavow him, we don't have that option. It is just another unfriendly leader in control of a nation. One that will be pushed into the arms of Iran, and that will widen their conflict with Saudi Arabia to a new location. By disavowing him, we would effectively be making another Yemen at a time when the Iranians are losing in every theatre. Just seems like a bad move geopolitically, with no upside.

Geopolitics is an ugly business when you often have to rub elbows with pieces of shit whether you want to or not. And making a decision in that arena for seemingly no logical reason is a dangerous call.

They might go with Turkey or Russia, but the point is, they need a nation to legitimize their rule. And if we forgo that opportunity, someone else will. I doubt it would be a friendly Western nation, and Iran would want that opportunity. Would they get it? Maybe, maybe not. I am not autistically up to date on the conflict anymore. Why give them the chance? What do we gain by doing that?

Rightwing politics historically is about convenience. So what if this guy spent years on the side that killed thousands in the greatest terror attack in American soil, he has money and power and having or caring about dead relatives and countrymen is inconvenient. This is why lefty politics are called suicidal by comparison; maintaining integrity and holding people to account in any fair capacity means turning down partnerships and deals like this while others take them and advance.

Turkey and Israel already have him under their thumb, so I really doubt either nation would allow Iran to regain it's foothold in Syria. Jolani has very few paths available to him on where he can go.

I agree with you, but if we disavowed him, it would open up the door. I doubt Turkey or Israel would allow the Iranians to take advantage of the opportunity. It needlessly muddies the water and creates an opportunity they will attempt to capitalize on. What do we gain by doing that? It just hurts us. Which was the point I was trying to make with OP. There is no upside to that. Not to mention how it would damage our relationship with Turkey at a time when that is a bad idea.

I don't see any upside here to doing that besides moral optics in the US.

Wow, a name change, one that is more honest to boot.
How violent.

That's pretty much a necessity to become a legitimate leader in that region, can't blame him for islam's nature.

>>521214615
Oh please, he's a breath of fresh air after decades of regression by people doing exactly what you accuse Trump of doing.

Framing things in pretty but empty words does not alter anything about being shit on by the democrats and similar progressive shambling zombies.
