I'm done with WWE and want to start watching AEW as I feel I've been missing out on some great matches in the last couple of years of not watching
Also, AEW seems to be more fun overall, from what I see

Is there anything I need to know before getting into AEW?
Some key storylines, wrestlers etc.

The biggest storyline in AEW right now is Hangman vs Moxley. Hangman had the AEW title in 2021 or 22 but his reign got cut short because of a certain cuck politicking his way to the world title. Now Hangman had a huge heel run and turned into an obsessed insane man. He just turned face now and is friends with Ospreay.
Hard to describe the mid card scene as its all over the place. From jobbers that get a quick mid card run to main eventers that stay in the upper midcard.
Also Darby should return soon and he will be the biggest babyface

Biggest storyline is Deathriders, who last year murdered Bryan Danielson and took the world title hostage. Mox is their leader and his mission statement is that the roster is too apathetic and he wants to push them to reach their full potential. First the jobbers tried to take them on and failed, then the midcarders, and now we're on to maineventers.

Hangman Page has been on a multi year odyssey since losing his world title. He went insane for a bit and burned Swerve Strickland's house down. Now he's back as a fan favorite and seeking redemption, to end the Deathriders and recapture the world title.

Will Ospreay and Swerve also play in to it. They all three wanted to be the one who finally won back the title. Swerve failed at Dynasty, and Ospreay lost to Hangman in the finals of the Owen Hart tournament. Ospreay still wants to have Hangman's back though and wants Swerve to help too, but Swerve refuses because he still hates Hangman.

It's basically all the top young guys coming together to btfo the evil heel group.

I was in the same boat as you about a month ago.
I like it but it's often shit in a few ways that make it really hard to recommend.
My biggest problem is the spots. They have a lot of overelaborate spots that when done perfectly are really cool to watch. The problem is that it's not always done perfectly, and their solution to that is to slow the match down to a crawl, having people just stare or sit there like idiots until everyone is in position for the spot.
This is also a WWE issue, but AEW has it like five times worse.
Also the crowd tries to get itself over in the worst ways and it makes me want someone to go and start a brawl just so they'd shut the fuck up for a minute.
