I think you're closer than the anons that say people just don't play baseball anymore (they're not wrong btw), but I don't think the mound has as much to do with it as I genuinely don't most people whoever even played catch have actually thrown a regulation length pitch.
I'm not saying it's long toss or anything, but I doubt most people have ever thrown a ball more than 30-40 feet in their lives, let alone 60'6. Hell I think I've only ever thrown that hard just to try field popflys which doesn't take any fucking accuracy. If you've never tried it before, you're probably gonna go wild unless you put absolutely no gas on the ball (which frankly didn't even work for Tiff).
