This. I still play it and enjoy it quite a bit but I feel there was a lot of wasted potential. If this had been Fire Pro's mechanics mixed with Fight Forever's graphics, this would have been the perfect wrasslin' game.

All Star Pro Wrestling was the name of the series. I don't remember a ton except this shit felt like a real match and was also fun. Probably the best I've ever played in terms of gameplay if you don't mind something methodical. Also, it's only in Japanese.

2k19 is really slow. 2k20 is a bit more sped up, the patched version of the game isn't as buggy as day one. 2k18 is the perfect version of 2k19, much more fast paced and had more personality in it's menus. Skip 2k17. 2k16 is slow, really heavy on the "simulation" style, but had some leftover mechanics from 2k14 so it was more free and fun than other titles. 2k15 is the "changing engines" game so it was gutted. 2k14 is good, but if you're going that far back you might as well play WWE 12 or 13.

Whether you like it or not or it could have been better, I was just pointing it out as a significant change to the gameplay that makes calling it "reskinned SYM" ridiculous. For a sequel, it plays wildly different as far as match pacing and actually having some of the psychology of a real match that SYM didn't even come close to. Everyone game before HCTP was just a bump and feed race to a finisher. HCTP let you see whether or not they're damaged or not and if you just have one or two yellow body parts they're almost guaranteed to kick out. No Mercy definitely gets credit for the spirit meter allowing actual babyface comebacks to win. Both shit on SYM.

in HCTP you can spam strong moves all you want (left+X I think for the Strong Grapple) while in SYM those were unlocked after a gut kick and iirc after picking up the opponent
what is the point of Quick Grapples and even Signature grapples if Strong ones are always available
what is even worse is that you can assign anything to any grapple for your caw
