I had a medical release after 16 years in the military. I moved to the country and live off my disability and DEC pay of $7300 a month.
Last year I took in a feral pregnant cat and over the course of 3 weeks i'd fed and placed water by the basement door she was hiding behind. She would come up for a couple weeks and be near me but not let me touch her. One day she came up and I tould feel that she was gonna have her kittens. She came to me, I lowered my hand as I always did, and she decided to lower it and come near instead of swiping at me. She had her kittens in my living room that night.
One year later and this cat has spawned 14 cats. I've kept her and the first few(5 total), and given the rest away for free. But when a cat knows you from birth, still gets to live outside and roam the fields and woods, they still come back to home. They like when I give them chicken, they let me rub their tummies. I had a dog for 12 years and her death destroyed me enough that i'll never have a dog again due to the bond a man and his dog creates. But cats can come and go and be much more independent. It's a different connection. A dog is like a kid of yours, a cat is more of that slutty girl that comes around to get nice oets and cuddle up but will still go out to do whatever it wants without your concern.
