>>18087727It's arguably what made pro-wrestling good in the old days.
There was always something very off about pro-wrestlers. They were in it because they couldn't quite make it anywhere else and they were out for themselves. They wouldn't hesitate to hit you or make it hurt unless you gave them reason not to by selling and generally being cooperative. Basically, if you no sell my move, you're getting a big fucking receipt that's going to make you wish you did.
And they were stupid. They were willing to do stupid things like getting dropped on their heads. And, as a fan, you didn't care because you knew there was something wrong with these people anyway and they probably deserved it if they got hurt.
Fast forward to today and it's a different breed. Modern wrestlers are fairly normal people and well-adjusted. They are in it because they love wrestling. Sure, they are out for themselves but it's less likely they're going to go into business for themselves. Because they're more focused on the show than making the fight look real, they lean more into acrobatics and amazing looking moves and theatrics.
The old wrestling was better but the new wrestling is probably healthier in multiple levels. It will never got back because people in the business just aren't likely to accept that.
