The metaphor doesn’t hold up because Tommy Reddit isn’t anywhere near Cody level, even if your of the opinion that Cody is your favorite mid-carder. The guy has had less than 10 UFC fights. That people think he’s owed a title shot is Dana’s fault for putting an interim title on him. He’s never headlined a PPV, he’s never drawn a fucking dime.
It’s more of a condemnation of the heavyweight division that this the most interesting specimen they can produce. No one knows if he’ll be completely gassed by the 3rd round let alone the 5th.
He’s crushed a few cans and never were style bums. Yet reddit and jewtube personalities act like he’s owed something or that Jon not wanting to fight him is indicative of anything other than he’s a literal who. There’s no upside to fighting the guy. He doesn’t add a single buy to the PPV, he doesn’t do anything for his legacy and maybe he beats Jones, so there’s zero incentive to take the fight.

Light heavyweight was the Jewel of the sport. It was the prestige division for almost all of its post tourney existence. Jones single handedly dismantled it. Whatever you think of the guy, he was still one of the GOATS and ran a division for a decade+. You can’t retroactively decide it was a shit class.

By the time Jones reign came around LHW was the shallowest division next to HW because all of those guys were washed and the new dudes were fuckin bums. In DJ’s defense there’s only so many talented fighters in the world that actually weigh 125lbs. And most of those dudes are gonna go into boxing instead of shoot fighting for hotdogs and casino vouchers. Aldo was GOATable but the retarded 100% Chute Boxe sparring fucked him up long term. He was definitely ahead of his time with the sprawl - leg kick heavy meta. Aldo v Faber bootleg ppv was one of the best damn events zuffa ever had.
