25% of Max subs watch exclusively HBO branded shows. They're splitting in order to take all the prestige content and put it in a new streaming platform which will be branded solely as HBO. This will carry the high quality shows such as The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, True Detective, etc. The thinking they have behind this is that they believe the audience has come to see the HBO logo as a marker of quality. So they're throwing all of the reality TV and other low quality shows away and just taking the big prestigious dramas to out them in one place.
Wrestling doesn't fit there. They are attempting a Criterion Collection type idea. AEW and any other live shows won't be on there.
The "both sides want AEW" narrative pushed by Meltzer is mocked by all actual TV journalists
