I think the storyline was "Moxley hates and disrespects you unless you are willing to die for AEW". Which doesn't explain why he had a problem with Darby or Danielson or Page, who all do self-destructive shit regularly. Moxley clearly has brain damage, so it ended up being arbitrary, inconsistent bullshit. Hopefully he goes away for a long time.

Mox got spooked after losing to Naito and began thinking he was now a fraud. He created a cult of guys hyperfixated on claiming to be badass while acting like bitches as a way to compensate. He also repurposed a prior gimmick of his that was done to indicate how little he cared for titles as a way to psychologically supplant the idea of the championship with himself to try to hijack the main event in that regard.

I think this was Moxley trying to be smarter than he actually is. He was trying to do a long running heel stable shit like he saw Roman do in WWE. I'm Tony was like "We should do that and highlight you." I could see Moxley not wanting to come off like the Bloodline or the Shield. Instead I think he wanted to poke at fun Punk with the group and gimmick the same way Jericho did with the Learning Tree shit and WWE booking. He wanted to come off as invading force that tries to hold the AEW roster to his own standards. And he wanted to "take the belt hostage" the way I guess he feels WWE booking did or does. So again, a bunch of meta WWE horseshit being done by people that aren't that good at editing their own shit, and booked by someone who isn't good at booking.

Best part was when everyone was involved in their storyline a few months ago and the Elite was scared of them, Jack Perry avoided them and Christian lurking with his world title contract but obviously had no chance of cashing it in. Heels reacting to heels always intrigued me in wrestling. I hope they continue.

one of my fav feuds and matched back in the day was was triple h vs kurt angle 2000-2001, culminating in that royal rumble title match.
sure when it started in 2000 it was portrayed as hhh being a relative babyface, but no one bought into that, triple h was the top bad guy going back over a year into 99, he even ruined wm by retaining, the fans still didnt like him, they were just entertained by the kurt-steph shit. anyway that rumble match was great, both heels, crowd not quite knowing what to do. it was kino rather than a carcrash.
