It kind of runs into two issues, men mostly watch sports so they have to figure out how to convince women to watch sports and to get men to watch the womens leagues. The best example of this problem is US Soccer. The US Women's National team is infinitely more successful than the mens. They have won multiple world cups/olympic golds, have household names, and everything you could want from a team. Still the ladies team is out earned my the mens team, which failed to qualify for the olympics they are that bad.
