It made brand sense for AEW to distance themselves from Hogan when they were starting out because he was the past, and AEW was the future. Also Hogan was associated with failure in TNA. They needed to show that they were their own thing, and not just reliant on faded stars from the past. It's how the company differentiated themselves from their market competitors. This is why I believe Tony didn't want Hogan, but I think Tony also cynically wanted to grift from leftoid rage over Hogan at the same time too, just like he did with Nyla. He tries to have it both ways.
