Is there a particular method that youtube uses when selecting a non-custom thumbnail? Maybe it always picks a frame at the 10th second or something like that?
If there is, then we can easily tell if he's lying about that particular frame being picked. Now if it always picks a random frame, then I guess we can't really disprove what he says

He's lying for the simple fact that someone who gets their income from posting on Youtube and making content for same is not going to suddenly decide on ne particular video to change their workflow and not create a thumbnail, leaving it for Youtube to choose. He's just being dickless. Stuff like this, trying to grab some attention by doing stupid shit and then backpedaling really exposes who you shouldn't listen to. the algorithm tends to favor big smiling faces and exaggerated facial expressions so it might be true. And i guess they didn't make a custom thumbnail because the news about Hogan's passing broke so suddenly that they just recorded and posted something quick. Not trying to cope for Maven, just being rational. Still very lazy on their part for not making a better thumbnail whenever they had the opportunity to do so.

If you ever tried or try to film, edit, and upload a video to Youtube you'll realize how much time they had to put together a thumbnail. It makes no sense that they filmed, edited and uploaded a video but "forgot" or "didn't have time" to create a thumbnail. In all honesty most places have place holder thumbnails for situations like this where it's the channel's logo or name.
