Sonny Onoo sued WCW and they had to like reveal a bunch of contracts or something and it was fascinating stuff. They were throwing money at everyone like crazy
Anonymous No.18366328 [Report]
Would be interesting to see some of the other guys contracts. Would be funny if there was some kind of Mel Brooks Producers scenario where WCW could make more money the fewer PPV buys they sold.
Anonymous No.18366330 [Report]

It's absolutely insane. I know the average guy wouldn't get what 50% of that means but I'll break it down. It means ANYTHING Hogans name was branded on>>18366300
which was a ton of shit...after they made it, shipped it and sold it...he got 50%. That is almost impossible to believe. To put that into perspective, Michael Jordan was getting 5% from Nike (granted, huge new contract bonuses too) but still.

This is what actual Creative Control looks like btw.
Legally coded into a written contract like this.

This contract was the equivalent of Hogan finding a guy with 2 broken legs, that he could have still healed up from, and just driving a knife right into his lungs/heart.
WCW was in bad shape sure, but this was a huge part of the financial death blow that actually killed it. He FLEECED Turner dry.

1998 was still good shape, but yeah, his contract was fucking insane. Shit, Hall and Nash got bumped up around this time because I believe they had it in contract that only Hogan can make more, so when Bret came in, they got bumped up to make the same as Bret.

Like fuck, they were burning money.

>>18366347
Jordan accepted equity in exchange. He made Barkley do the same, so they made out insanely rich, but yeah.

Yeah. That's just nuts. Bischoff throws out so many reasons they went under, but never points at the bloated contracts Turner had to deal with. They went from making 30 Mil in 98 to -60 Mil in 2000. WHO THE FUCK WOULD KEEP THAT?!

No this is a real contract alright, the infamous Hogan WCW contract people always reference/ joke about in the biz. I forget which lawsuit it came out in publicly as part of the discovery but it's 100% legit. Might have been the racial discrimination lawsuit maybe. or the Hogan/Russo lawsuits over Bash at the Beach 2000

did the MFN clause make them have to match signing bonuses or did it only deal with base salary? Because if they had to match or even hit like 25-50% of the $2m signing bonus holy shit you can see why they went out of business
Anonymous No.18367842 [Report]
and then about a year later Vince Russo came to town and eventually pissed all over Hogan's contract and forced him to take his ball and go home and Hogan ended up not hitting a bunch of those numbers in 2000 and then in early 2001 Vince bought WCW so Time Warner only had to pay Hogan the minimum since there was no more tv, ppv or merchandise
So Hogan didn't really see nearly as much as that contract would have allowed him to get it

They didn't actually ever go out of business AOL who bought Time Warner didn't want wrestling and were fine selling out off cheap to the point even Bischoff and some investors had a deal lined up but it didn't happen because AOL said they didn't want wrestling on their network.
If Turner didn't sell to AOL, WCW would have continued on.

No, nothing like that, I'm simply wondering because AEW situation is very different to WCW's, as in it does have near unlimited backing but zero financial success.
Anonymous No.18368081 [Report]
>>18367898
Fuck off with this obvious bullshit. They didn't sell to Bischoff because one of his main investors looked at the books and immediately pulled out. Bischoff's group then offered to pay for the company by yearly installments and Time Warner laughed at him and opened negotiations with Vince. They ran off 80% of their paying audience and were bleeding money out the ass. Time Warner was not keeping that thing on the books.

yeah this stuff is clear Bischoff simp narrative trying to rewrite histry, this is what Bischoff has spent the past 4 yrs doing with his endless podcasts etc. The "WCW was being made eat loses from Warner Home Video/etc" is one of those, as well as the "snooty AOL/Turner didn't want rasslin on their network" thing. They loved "rasslin" in 96/97/98 when it was massively successful for them and generating money. After that? not so much

billionaire ted had the money and he wanted the product. the main thing that killed WCW was Ted losing control over his own company. if he had maintained control WCW could have lost a ton of cash and he wouldn't have cared. It's like how the detroit tigers lost a ton of money in the 2010s because the owner wanted a championship and didn't give a shit about how much it cost him since he was 90
