This contract was the equivalent of Hogan finding a guy with 2 broken legs, that he could have still healed up from, and just driving a knife right into his lungs/heart.
WCW was in bad shape sure, but this was a huge part of the financial death blow that actually killed it. He FLEECED Turner dry.

1998 was still good shape, but yeah, his contract was fucking insane. Shit, Hall and Nash got bumped up around this time because I believe they had it in contract that only Hogan can make more, so when Bret came in, they got bumped up to make the same as Bret.

I forget which lawsuit it came out in publicly as part of the discovery but it's 100% legit. and then about a year later Vince Russo came to town and eventually pissed all over Hogan's contract and forced him to take his ball and go home and Hogan ended up not hitting a bunch of those numbers in 2000 and then in early 2001 Vince bought WCW so Time Warner only had to pay Hogan the minimum since there was no more tv, ppv or merchandise
So Hogan didn't really see nearly as much as that contract would have allowed him to get it

They didn't actually ever go out of business AOL who bought Time Warner didn't want wrestling and were fine selling out off cheap to the point even Bischoff and some investors had a deal lined up but it didn't happen because AOL said they didn't want wrestling on their network.
If Turner didn't sell to AOL, WCW would have continued on.

Fuck off with this obvious bullshit. They didn't sell to Bischoff because one of his main investors looked at the books and immediately pulled out. Bischoff's group then offered to pay for the company by yearly installments and Time Warner laughed at him and opened negotiations with Vince. They ran off 80% of their paying audience and were bleeding money out the ass. Time Warner was not keeping that thing on the books.

yeah this stuff is clear Bischoff simp narrative trying to rewrite histry, this is what Bischoff has spent the past 4 yrs doing with his endless podcasts etc. The "WCW was being made eat loses from Warner Home Video/etc" is one of those, as well as the "snooty AOL/Turner didn't want rasslin on their network" thing. They loved "rasslin" in 96/97/98 when it was massively successful for them and generating money. After that? not so much
