"Football Season" in wrestling is when the ratings are a lot lower because viewers are watching football, which is a much more popular sport. Typically it's not worth it to have big events happen during this time period because it's harder to draw in viewers, so the content has a lot more filler as they're saving anything interesting for 'mania season. Seth getting the title again, right now, is funny because he's basically the filler midcard champion.
