I think Cena was lead to believe he would be part of a unit with The Rock and with Travis Scott being involved in some way. Since Travis Scott was probably too high to think of the next week, he probably agreed not even regarding whether or not he'd follow through with anything long term. And The Rock as always has to spend the last years of his fame making forgettable movies that fall straight into the streaming pit instead of wrestling.

I think Cena got frustrated with booking and took things into his own hands.

I think the biggest mistake of this heel turn was making him go heel on the crowd. Should have just been anti-hero Cena. His justification for turning never made sense because he's been showered in love and cheers for several years now. Every promo was him eviscerating the audience as they cheered and chanted cringe shit like "we are sorry". Just made the whole thing feel goofy and very forced.

Was a perfectly good face turn. It put a "Is this a face turn or a swerve?" "Is Cody turning heel?" "Is the Rock going to show up?" into the entire weekend. No one knew how it was going to play out.

It gave us a good match with moments of uncertainty and a definitive passing of the torch to Cody. We're also down to about 10 appearances for Cena. With him not having the title, there's no need for "main event matches" so they can basically just be dream matches.
