>The Two Key Figures Behind the Success of the First Japanese Women’s Pro Wrestling Event in Texas!
>Exploring the Possibilities and Challenges from the Perspective of the Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling Executive and the President of TOKYO STORY
>―First, can you tell us how this event in Texas came about?
>Shimizu: “I wasn’t originally very knowledgeable about pro wrestling, but many people around me were fans of DDT Pro-Wrestling. Through those connections, I had the opportunity to attend a big event at Ryogoku Kokugikan, and that’s when I learned about Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. Around that time, I was sensing there might be some potential in Texas, and as fate would have it, Sanshiro Takagi gave a lecture at the Roppongi Rotary Club, which I’m a member of. I felt it was destiny and sent out a love call saying, ‘Let’s do this together.’”
>―I was there too, and things really heated up quickly, ending with a ‘Let’s make it happen.’
>Shimizu: “That was in September of last year, so we managed to pull this off in less than a year. I’ve always thought that toys and idols are the best way to spread Japanese culture in Texas, so when I saw Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling on video, I thought, ‘This will work.’ What really moved me was the fact that women’s pro wrestling is commercially viable only in Japan. In countries like the U.S. or Europe, where women’s rights are strong, female wrestlers tend to be treated as an add-on to the men’s division, and all-women’s wrestling promotions don’t really succeed commercially. But in Japan, it works. I figured there must be something uniquely appealing about Japanese culture in that. Now, I’m convinced that’s true.”
>>18456210>―Takahashi, what was your reaction when you first heard from Takagi about the Texas show?>Takahashi: “It was half excitement and half anxiety. We’ve always aimed to increase our overseas presence, but until now, we’ve done it by joining forces with local promotions for joint events. This time, even though we were partnering with TOKYO STORY, it was still our first solo event overseas and in an unfamiliar market. It was a chance to test Tokyo Joshi Pro’s own strength—almost like a touchstone moment. But I also fully understood how tough it would be, so honestly, I felt that if this turned into a huge failure, we wouldn’t be able to say, ‘Let’s do another overseas event’ ever again.”>―You haven’t been much in the public eye until now, but what is your role within CyberFight?>Takahashi: “My position is Executive Officer, and I oversee Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling as part of my responsibilities. I also handle international business operations, including for DDT, and corporate sales.”>―I remember you joined after DDT became part of the CyberAgent Group.>Takahashi: “Yes, I joined in 2018. I already had a connection with Takagi, and when I was considering leaving my previous job, he approached me saying he wanted me to handle corporate sales. Once I joined, my responsibilities gradually expanded, and since October two years ago, I’ve been in charge of overseeing the Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling business, focusing on the numbers. As for day-to-day operations, Koda continues to lead the on-site aspects.”>―What were the key factors behind the success?>Takahashi: “One factor was that Shimizu and his team weren’t from the pro wrestling industry. We left all aspects of local promotion and creative direction entirely up to their sense of the market.”
>>18456221>Shimizu: “Before the event, we had a booth at ‘TOKYO X,’ a Japanese pop culture event that drew about 30,000 people, and Maki Itoh’s popularity there was incredible. From that point, we changed the promotional visuals to focus on Maki Itoh. Another important point was addressing some conservative segments in Texas who might have prejudices about women’s showmanship. We needed to clearly convey that this wasn’t a show where women expose skin to please men. So we introduced an underlying theme of girl power with the tagline: ‘In TJPW, Women are Heroes.’ The idea was to show that women can succeed and fight hard—that was crucial.”>―You visited Texas beforehand. Did you notice any big differences between Japan and Texas?>Takahashi: “There’s definitely a unique atmosphere to each place, and Texas felt very laid-back overall. People didn’t seem so rushed—there was this positive, relaxed vibe, which made me hopeful they’d embrace our content in an open and positive way. Women’s pro wrestling is still a blue ocean overseas, so I believe it can integrate well into the Texas market.”>―Advertising strategies were different from Japan as well, right?>Takahashi: “This time, we ran outdoor ads along major highways. In Japan, outdoor ads aren’t really an option, but Texas is a car society. We purchased an ad with a guaranteed 1 million impressions, and just having it displayed gave the event a kind of status—it became a branding move in itself. I was worried because the Dallas venue was farther from downtown than I expected. But the large parking lot ended up being a huge plus, which helped us bring people in. Location really mattered here.”>Shimizu: “We also hired a few influencers for about $300 each, and one of them posted a 7-second video highlighting Mizuki. That went viral, and we sold $10,000 worth of tickets in a single day.”
>>18456207also a possibility
>>18456230>Takahashi: “From there, ticket sales started trending upward, and that was a game-changer. I still can’t fully analyze it from a Japanese perspective, but I think it’s part of their culture to go to an event just because it looks fun. This experience gave us confidence that Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling is a product worth buying tickets for.”>―The barrier to entry for pro wrestling itself seems lower than in Japan, right?>Takahashi: “Yes. And judging by the atmosphere at the venue, I don’t think there were that many hardcore wrestling fans. When we got there, even Konosuke Takeshita and some locals told us, ‘Texas already has a base for enjoying wrestling.’”>―Well, it’s right next to Mexico, and there are local lucha libre promotions too.>Takahashi: “When I was there, I stayed at a hotel where an older man told me he’d loved wrestling since way back—he even talked about Bobo Brazil. The next morning, around 6 a.m., I saw him in the breakfast area watching Tokyo Joshi videos on YouTube. He said, ‘Whoa! Mizuki is amazing!’ That gave me a huge boost of confidence. Looking at the atmosphere in the venue too—Shoko Nakajima and Miu Watanabe’s match, which started with pretty basic back-and-forth action, still got great reactions. Compared to other U.S. states, people in Texas really seemed to watch the wrestling. It sounds contradictory, but I think Texas has this unique combination: there aren’t a lot of hardcore wrestling fans, yet the audience enjoys wrestling in a relaxed, open way.”>―When I visited, I felt Texas doesn’t have much in terms of entertainment options.
>>18456242>Shimizu: “In the U.S., cities like Houston and Dallas are considered major metropolitan areas, but compared to Tokyo or Osaka, they’re completely different. That’s why I think there’s still a high sensitivity toward anything new or unusual. Especially with the recent boom in Japanese content, there’s still a strong appetite and market for Japanese culture. We were able to tap into that this time.”>―What was the gender and age breakdown like?>Takahashi: “There weren’t too many young people. In Houston, I think the crowd was about 90% male. In Dallas, there were more couples and families, but even then, I’d estimate women were about 10% to 20% of the audience.”>―At the TOKYO X booth, the people who bought tickets out of interest were mostly women in couples or all-female groups. It seems there’s still a lot of untapped potential there.>Shimizu: “That’s true. There were a few all-female groups, and the hardcore ones attended all three days.”>Takahashi: “I felt that if we could reach that demographic better, we could grow a lot more. The local maid café team ‘Megami Maids’ who helped us, and Miu Watanabe, were talking about idols the whole time, so I think we could also push more from that idol-culture angle.”>Shimizu: “I think we can also tap into the family market more. At first, it was probably hard for people to invite their wives or girlfriends to something completely unknown. One couple who helped us the most told us that the wife initially said, ‘I was offended. You left these pamphlets that looked like a hostess club, and as a housewife, I didn’t want to expose my husband to young women showing skin.’ But later she said, ‘The more I learned, the more I realized this isn’t that kind of entertainment.’ She told us it’s something families can watch together and have a blast. Going forward, I want to communicate that better.”>―So you plan to continue running shows in Texas?
>Maki Itoh’s popularity there was incredible. From that point, we changed the promotional visuals to focus on Maki Itoh
Apologize to Maki Hogan who drew the house at Dallas.
>>18456250>Shimizu: “We want to eventually expand into a full U.S. tour. At the very least, next year we aim to hold events in three Texas cities: Houston, Dallas, and Austin.”>Takahashi: “If we can fill venues the size of the Dallas one in each city, that would be ideal.”>―From a financial standpoint, I imagine your perspectives differ, but how did it turn out?>Takahashi: “Just from ticket sales alone, we made over 20 million yen (around $140,000 USD), so the business side was profitable. With sponsorships as well, there’s still plenty of room for growth. As for merchandise, the per-customer spending was actually lower than when we cater to hardcore wrestling fans. Meet-and-greet was confusing for many first-timers, which is something we need to improve. But the fact that so many casual fans came is actually a great sign when looking at the event as a whole.”>Shimizu: “The gate alone put us in the black, and if we can bring in more local sponsors going forward, there’s significant potential for even bigger profits.”>―I heard the Bandai Namco Group team behind the Gashapon machines was thrilled?>Shimizu: “Pom Harajuku went wild with the Gachapon machines, and they loved it.”>Takahashi: “It’s rare for someone to go that crazy and have the sponsor be happy about it! Normally you’d hear, ‘Please don’t break it, don’t hit it,’ but they said, ‘As long as it doesn’t break, do whatever you want.’ The wrestlers were actually shocked. That open-mindedness worked in a great way, and the crowd even started chanting ‘Gachapon!’ We had 2,500 people chanting Gachapon—that’s insane.”>Shimizu: “I think that’s a first in pro wrestling history.”>Takahashi: “I’ve heard chants like ‘This is awesome!’ and ‘Holy shit!,’ but never a Gachapon chant. And it wasn’t something we prompted—it happened naturally. That gave the sponsor incredible advertising value. I think more companies will want to join us and have fun like this in the future.”
>>18456264>―It really shows that the synergy with TOKYO STORY’s business model was perfect.>Shimizu: “Absolutely. But that connection was only possible because of the characters of the Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling roster. It wasn’t just about wrestling and Gachapon—we had Pom Harajuku, a true creative genius, Big Kaiju Shoko Nakajima scattering empty capsules in the ring, and the hugely popular character Maki Itoh. That’s what made this happen.”>Takahashi: “We did everything exactly as we do in Japan, without forced localization, and it worked—maybe even more than in Japan. That was great to see. We’ve always wanted fans to leave our shows feeling a little happier, a little more positive, and I think all three Texas shows achieved that. It was proof that our philosophy and vision can translate overseas.”>Shimizu: “I honestly think Tokyo Joshi Pro has the best chance to become something like Disney characters.”>―Will Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling continue to work in partnership with TOKYO STORY?>Takahashi: "I don’t think we can maximize our success without them. Honestly, this time’s results were only possible because they were operating locally, with local knowledge and connections. Doing this alone would have been impossible. We also learned that trying to control everything from Japan just doesn’t work.”>Shimizu: “For two months straight, we were posting videos on social media every single day, monitoring reactions and making adjustments—it took a lot of steady effort.”>Takahashi: “That was a huge help for us.”>Shimizu: “As long as Tokyo Joshi Pro says they want to work with us, we’ll only partner with them. This is marriage.”>Takahashi: “Exactly the same for me. Unless Shimizu-san walks away, we’ll keep working together.”
>We also hired a few influencers for about $300 each, and one of them posted a 7-second video highlighting Mizuki. That went viral, and we sold $10,000 worth of tickets in a single day.”
The "going viral doesn't translate to tickets" fags IN THE MUD. God this interview is amazing, just slaughtering so many /tjpw/ spergs headcanon one after the other
>>18456273>―So will this be an annual event?>Takahashi: “We haven’t decided yet. Honestly, once a year feels like a long gap, but when you think about it, a year goes by quickly for fans. It might create anticipation—‘They’re finally coming back after a year!’—so I don’t think we’d lose too many fans in the meantime. There’s no hard data to back this up, but that’s how I feel right now. The timing might shift earlier or later than July, though.”>―Small wrestling events have been popping up in Texas. What’s your view on that?>Shimizu: “I see it as an opportunity. There’s not much value in monopolizing a small market. What matters is growing the overall size of the market. ANIME MATSURI (a Japanese culture event with 50,000 attendees) has hosted wrestling shows too, and raising awareness is a good thing. To differentiate yourself, you need others to differentiate from—being the only player isn’t necessarily best. A diverse scene with different approaches ultimately makes the pie bigger for everyone.”>―Have you thought about scouting female wrestlers from Texas? Maybe debut someone from ‘Megami Maids’?>Shimizu: “That sounds fun. We do want to eventually create a Tokyo Joshi Pro USA.”>Takahashi: “The great thing is we wouldn’t even need to change the name. TJPW could stand for Texas Joshi Pro Wrestling too. We want Texas to become the foundation for full-scale U.S. expansion as part of the TJPW group. This is more than a goal—it’s our ambition. The next step is to solidify this and take it nationwide.”>Shimizu: “Talent exchange between TJPW in Japan and TJPW USA would be exciting.”>Takahashi: “This isn’t just a dream—I think it’s achievable. Our aim is to grow TJPW as a franchise.”>Shimizu: “This is really just the beginning, the first step. We’re planning to make history. Let’s create a legend together.”
>>18456230>one of them posted a 7-second video highlighting Mizuki. That went viral, and we sold $10,000 worth of tickets in a single day.”
>>18456283AEW in the mud.
>>18456283It finally working for the first time ever doesn't mean anything. It shows how bad CyberFight are at viral marketing, since Tokyo Story were at least smart enough to realize that paying influencers is the way to actually do it
>>18456352Nope. If Mizuki's virality was responsible for selling tickets for them at any other show don't you think they'd be talking about it constantly?
>>18456316AEW, then Mizuki, then Maki Itoh, drew the house.
>>18456242>Takahashi: “Yes. And judging by the atmosphere at the venue, I don’t think there were that many hardcore wrestling fans. At the very least, next year we aim to hold events in three Texas cities: Houston, Dallas, and Austin.”>Takahashi: “If we can fill venues the size of the Dallas one in each city, that would be ideal.”They're making some big assumptions here.
That Dallas show wouldn't have drawn this well, if All In didn't take place in the same weekend in Texas as well. There were a lot of AEW fans on social media that said they went to a TJPW show the first time, because it took place at the same time as All In and due to the fact that they saw TJPW wrestlers appear in AEW before, or because they went viral.
They still need to piggyback on big wrestling events taking place at the same time in the area to even think about having similarly successful shows in the U.S.
>>18456374That doesn't surprise me.
>Takahashi: “Yes, I joined in 2018. I already had a connection with Takagi, and when I was considering leaving my previous job, he approached me saying he wanted me to handle corporate sales. >>18456401I’m not sure how much I agree with this. For the Dallas show sure, but Houston is pretty far from Dallas and I doubt there was much crossover between the Houston audience and the All In audience. I think the Houston shows are a good indicator of what sort of crowd they can pull just by themselves. Austin could potentially be a good place if they focus in on the college crowd

I am very excited for the show this weekend.
schizo unc dropped some new hype cope
>My take is completely the opposite. I think it’s going to feel totally different from the first time. Honestly, it’s not really “3 (rerun)”—it’s more like “4,” or maybe something in between 3 and 4. And then, another little theory I have: Tomorrow’s show is just presented as a revival, but actually, from the start, this was meant to be a two-part performance—two shows that together make one piece. After they decided to do it again this year, maybe early on they came up with the idea for two performances, got the green light, and that’s why they booked the venue for two days like that.
>>18456842tbf he actually understood what misao was saying in her streams so she probably gave some hints or whatever.
>>18456842Oof, that’s some strong copium. I’m looking forward to the rerun, but I’m not expecting it to be a “part 2”. It’ll just be a second showing with a few tweaks
>>18456842>this was meant to be a two-part performance—two shows that together make one pieceI actually said this before. The fight was a work and the reason to do the rerun. Theres no way Koda would agree to redo the show a month later just because Misao didnt feel like it was to her standards. I dont even think booking the venue a month in advance is even possible.
>>18456399AEW was not mentioned. It's a total non-factor in the show's success which is why they intend to run Houston, Dallas, and Austin next year.
>>18456749What are his other profiles?
>>18456562>Fans of TJPW are weebs who want something that’s not America-coded.TJPW continuously thinks that what draws Americans in is making things more like America and putting more American wrestlers in prominent positions when that's not why anyone actually watches.
>>18456894this. its sus that days later after the show ended hype 3 re was announced. thats way too soon to have done all the logistics for it.
>>18456562>>18456944I agree. The Americanisation of TJPW would ironically kill it.

>>18456749He got called out while Uta was still 17 but I haven't checked if he's still leaving comments under her tweets
>>18456842Just read Misao's tweets when she literally said HYPE 3 was shit and would do things better next time if she could (she's critical of herself and her work like any tortured artist)
>>18456894agreed

>>18456401I wonder if this is true. Logically it does make sense, but tell me, did the GCW show or that random lucha show do better than expected the same way TJPW did?
After the Texas tour Tokyo Story sent out surveys. If people were primarily attending because of All In, that would be noted in their data from the surveys, so isn’t it interesting that they don’t mention All In at all despite having that data?
What's really interesting is that I believe I found a link between the maid cafe Pom's sister works for and the Tokyo Story owner
What are AEW’s numbers when they aren’t piggybacking off TJPW?
The man who runs the headspa and bar Hikari works at also runs the men's esthe "Sena Aino/Rin Shirayuki" is at. He's also involved with the Yokohama gym she's a part of
Hikari literally got pimped out by her boyfriend

>>18457851Never really made sense that they pay walled that show, even with the (formerly 2, now 1) week trial.
I wonder what they're doing with the November Korakuen show. Not only are they changing the seating plan but they also changed the name of the show from All Rise '25
>>18457981Yeah, that was a bone-headed decision, since AEW Dark ran opposite to it for free on YT.

>>18458019Your cheki will be sent to a prison in El Salvador
>>18458017>>18458036I'm not talking about the booking plans
>>18457994To lower the seating capacity? That's the only change I could think of, considering they normally run the max capacity for their Korakuen shows anyway (and rarely fill it except for Ittenyon)
>>18458004Didn't they try to air it on WU right after Dynamite? But it's a promotional tool they pay walled. They should have just put it on YouTube or something
>>18458073They don't run max capacity for any Korakuen except Ittenyon. They could just be adjusting seat prices, but then why also change the name of the show?
Misao is freaking out. They only sold 12 tickets to HYPE 3.33 You Can (Not) Draw Dimes
>>18458056Ah, I assumed they might be changing the seating plan because of some booking plan. Maybe they’re changing things as a promotional thing. Like, more ladies seats or under 18 seats, since those are the two demographics where they’re trying to grow
>>18458107kek what an anti draw useless human being
no booly the hero
shes trying her best
>>18458100Maybe they don't think it'll draw, so they changed All Rise to Autumn Tour or whatever.
>>18458148A Korakuen show isn't gonna be given a generic house show name. It's not like All Rise is a prestigious name anyway
>>18457994Yuu has 1 last TJPW match before retiring
>>18458166It's listed as TBD right now. Did they bother with All Rise last year? Or were they in Seattle?
>>18458197The last All Rise was in October 2023. There hasn't been a November Korakuen since 2022
>Buying Miu's love by gifting her a rare Guinea Pig DVD box set (she's fucked up in the head)
Maybe it will be Miyu’s last Korakuen and will be given some commemorative name
>>18458268She's a glutton for self punishment
>>18458312TJPW Good Riddance 25
>>18458252I was at that last one with Akai vs Arai and Miyu vs Regina. It was okay. Maybe it's for the best they stopped booking them if they're going to run shows like that.
>>18458346We're going back to near monthly Korakuen's now that Takahashi has settled into his role

>Female Wrestler Wakana Uehara Shows Off "Plump Thighs" in Chun-Li Cosplay! Nearly the Same 59cm as Her Waist
>On the 2nd, female professional wrestler and talent Wakana Uehara (29) posted photos on her SNS in a China dress, striking kung fu poses and showcasing her trained 59cm thighs.
>[Photos] Her "59cm" Plump Thighs! Also in a Bikini
>Uehara, whose specialty is kickboxing and who also shines as a cosplayer, looks stunning in this Chun-Li cosplay. Her body, sculpted through wrestling and kickboxing, and the legs extending from the China dress are breathtaking.
>In particular, her thighs garnered attention last month when she revealed on SNS, "Waist 58cm, thighs 59cm," an astonishing measurement. The impact of her poses comes from this impressive physique.
>Fans showered her with praise for her striking poses, with comments like, "The best and strongest beautiful legs!" "Such long legs!" "Just like Chun-Li!" "A real-life Chun-Li!" and "It suits you! So cute!"
>We can’t wait to see her perform Chun-Li’s signature move, the "Hundred Rending Legs," in the wrestling ring!
