Wrong, it was brought to English speakers by Hisaharu Tanabe (owner of puroresu.com since 1995) and here is his explanation:
"a shorter way to say "purofesshonaru resuringu (professional wrestling in Japanese pronounciation)." Around 1990, I started using the word PURORESU on the Internet and the BBS to distinguish the pro-wrestling of Japan"
And the point was Meltzer has never used the term, he only uses terms from 80s American wrestler locker rooms along with a few others like "workrate". Wrestlers or fans never said "puroresu" until Hisa made it an internet thing.
