It's hilariously pitiful how ashamed smarks (because that's all they are too) are to admit they got worked by a wrestling angle. As if that's not the entire fucking point of the industry and what makes it fun. I'll proudly say I had no idea about Rollins. I saw people saying it was real. I saw people saying it was fake. I simply didn't know. And that made the ending of the first night really fun to me because they played off of that so well sending him out on crutches and all dressed in casual clothes with that bulky knee brace. You saw that and thought for sure okay I guess it is legit then. But nope and off things went. And I loved it. Because I didn't know. But those three words are the worst enemy of every basement dwelling smark the world over. Not knowing eats them alive. They HAVE to know. They HAVE to have that info that lets them feel like they're on the inside. They HAVE to feel the smartest. Meanwhile they end up looking and sounding the dumbest motherfuckers like the shit in OP's picrel. I swear some of you ruin wrestling for yourselves

I fucking knew what was going to happen the moment he "hurt" his knee and I don't even regularly follow WWE except on this board.
(I was watching live because I talked my dad into watching to see Goldberg retire and I wouldn't subject him to something I wouldn't watch myself)

I mean, I just shared a story.
You're the one seething about it calling me a liar.
I've been watching this shit for nearly 40 years. It kind of isn't hard to see when you know how it works.

For me, I did believe it, but when he made the cash in I wasn't surprised. Regardless of working people, it's a retarded booking decision that literally makes no sense.
Why would Seth need to fake an injury to cash in? He has two body guards he can take anywhere with him and could've easily swept Punk at Summerslam. The ONLY way the angle could've worked is if every wrestler was actively trying to sabotage Seth and "deliberately injure him", steal his briefcase, prevent his cash in, whatever.
This just came off as a desperation move because WWE (or Hunter) has no idea how the fuck to properly layer storytelling.
So I mean sure, even the most cynical smark probably bought into it, but none of them should be surprised it happened. Just disappointed.

Dave did nothing except repeat (and even credit) John Pollock's reporting, which makes him taking this victory lap and asking for apologies like he broke some massive story absolutely retarded

Anybody who played real sports or watches real sports religiously did not get worked. They kept bullshitting and saying the knee was too swollen to diagnose which is totally bullshit. 9/10 they dianose a torn acl/mlc/meniscus the same day as it happened and they are having surgery in the next few days. Luckily for WWE, most wrestling fans are nerds who never played sports.

I didn't criticize it or nothing. Just said I figured that was the direction they were going, much like all sorts of people during the gamethread here.

This has nothing to do with playing sports and has everything to do with being a terminally online smark seeking out info about a hurt wrestler. I never knew there was/wasn't a diagnosis on it because I wasn't seeking that info out

Really though was the stuff you're mentioning stuff they mentioned on the shows? I could've been tuned out when they talked about it. If so then fine. But I never went out of my way to play detective or follow up on it either. Not saying that isn't a valid way to deduce what was what but it also isn't something everyone's going to give a shit enough to do

This. But the truth is that most modern "fans" don't give a shit about pro wrestling and they certainly don't understand it. They watch it ironically and only really pay attention to entrances, and then if attending live, the matches are just an opportunity to sing and chant to make themselves part of the show and convince themselves that paying exorbitant prices was worth it. Notice the long stretches of dead silence during the SummerSlam main event, for example. Nowadays you can tell when a match has lost the crowd because they start a chant like "this is awesome." Apparently WWE is nonstop awesome because they chant this every match that goes over 5 minutes.

Well, to counter that- the company specifically ran an angle with the intent to work these specific subset of fans you’re talking about- I never thought Seth was injured but that didn’t take away from the moment, I thought it was hackneyed regardless because I mean why wouldn’t Punk just rush the ramp and clobber Seth with the belt as he’s slowly undoing his knee brace? It was just an ehhh, let’s do it for the Pop moment, but it wasn’t really a good storytelling device- and it never had a chance to be when again the goal is to get one over on the fans on the internet rather than give the viewers something compelling and meaningful, your rant is pretty much a product of that, you’re upset at people refusing to be worked over a story that from the beginning was stupid because everyone who questioned knew exactly what Hunter was trying to do, if you want these particular fans to shut up and play along with the show then write good television, it’s that simple
