The gimmick is dead because Tony bizarrely decided to hold the show in August this year when every year previously it had been held in June. New Japan talent that might otherwise have been able to appear, are now not able to because the schedule conflicts with the G1. Stardom is also currently in the middle of a tournament. CMLL can’t send Mistico either because they’re running an event on the same day. Hopefully Tony moves it back to June next year

So Edge came back at the end of last year to help out FTR. They joined up to become Rated FTR because of course. Solid branding. They had some matches against the Death Riders. Did tag stuff while Edge was going after Mox for the world title too. All came up short. Frustrations were teased and FTR eventually turned on the Copester at Dynasty in April(?). Meanwhile Christian's boys started getting sick of his shit and eventually turned on him as well at All In. Edge returned and made the save for Christian telling him to 'go find himself,' playing off of their previous exchange of words. He pretty much does that and returns the favor by making the save tonight for Edge while FTR were going after him
It was all pretty well told up until about this past month or so. It's all felt very rushed ever since and they picked weird times to have some of the bigger moments

I think TK actively tries to avoid WWE/NXT events. I also think HHH realized this and decided to drop minor PPVs at random vs AEW. All Tony's plotting/scheming totally undone by a random "NXT Roadblock" show announced 2 weeks before air time.
