They removed a bunch of stuff from their archive and gradually reuploaded it. When I went through the archive last year, a lot was missing. I've gone through the archive a couple times this year and they did re-add a lot of stuff, but I don't think everything has been reuploaded yet.

Had a match against Takashi Sugiura at Zero1's Anniversary Sumo Hall show in 2022. The show was a big love letter to the Indie scene, but the main event was a sour note.

Sugiura hit a Release German Suplex on Otani, and his neck crashed into the turnbuckle, paralyzing him.

It's kinda kino that Marufuji is literally late stage Misawa that can't go anymore and Shiozaki is literally late stage Kobashi with the return and long hiatus every few months since they are carbon copies of their mentors. Also KENTA being the least washed out of the three even though he wasn't the same after his botched NXT injury and for years just looks like it physically hurts him to even lift his arms beyond a certain point is really surprising as well.

>Dragon Gate’s new Open the Dream Gate Champion, Madoka Kikuta (25), has called out freelance announcer Seiji Miyane (62) for a “direct confrontation.”

>Kikuta, who had been leading the heel faction Z-Brats, crushed Shun Skywalker with a rolling lariat at the Ota-ku show on the 17th to capture the promotion’s top title. “Don’t you ever talk big in front of me again. Against real strength, this result is only natural,” he said, emphasizing the difference in level.

>Meanwhile, Miyane appeared at the same venue to announce the card for his self-produced event, *THE GATE OF MIYANE* (Sept. 24, Korakuen Hall). For the fifth match, he booked Honoka and a mysterious “X” against Kikuta & Yoshiteru Kato. Fired up to put an end to Kikuta’s misdeeds, he declared, “We’ll settle this cleanly.”

>Hearing this, the new champion scoffed: “You’re underestimating me. Seiji Miyane, get in the ring yourself.” Taking aim at Miyane, who has traded verbal jabs with Shun Skywalker, Kikuta sneered: “You’ve never once stood in front of me. You can only stand up to some half-baked loudmouth like Shun Skywalker. In front of real strength, you’re the kind of guy who couldn’t even get in the ring. Maybe Miyane does have a good nose though, since he can sniff out true strength.”

>Will Kikuta’s fangs reach even the face of Japan’s daytime television?

>At Dragon Gate’s August 17 Ota City General Gymnasium event, Madoka Kikuta (25) of the villainous Z-Brats defeated Shun Skywalker to become the 42nd Open the Dream Gate Champion.

>Kikuta had attacked Shun at the July 13 Kobe event, ousting him from Z-Brats shortly after Shun won the belt from YAMATO, sparking their grudge.

>The match began with Kikuta ambushing Shun during his entrance. The bout turned chaotic with both men resorting to foul play. Kikuta gained the advantage when Z-Brats members interfered, but Honoka—who had also been expelled from the group—appeared to aid Shun. With sharp teamwork, Honoka and Shun toppled the Z-Brats crew, and Shun blinded Kikuta with powder, nearly securing the SSW.

>Kikuta barely escaped and blasted Shun with a rolling lariat, followed by a crushing hip attack to swing momentum. With Shun reeling, Kikuta hit another rolling lariat for the three count.

>Grabbing the mic after, Kikuta declared: “As you can see, I took this belt with real strength. When did this ring get so soft? What’s needed here is strength and self-assertion. Why isn’t anyone taking action? Anyone I don’t recognize in this ring, I’ll erase. I’ll throw out what’s unnecessary and destroy Dragon Gate.”

>He then announced the end of the Z-Brats name, signaling a new start with the faction members who remained by his side.

>“I’ll lead you to a new world. Try and stop me, Dragon Gate!” Kikuta shouted, ushering in an age of chaos for the dragon’s ring.

Dangerous Gate 8/17/25 - Partial Results
>1,930 spectators announced.

>Opening match of Homare vs ISHIN was fun. ISHIN would engage in some of his entertaining heel antics while also showing off his power, while Homare would try to get the win with surprise rollups. In the end, ISHIN would force Homare to tap with the Death Penalty crossface.

>Love & Peace (Hyo, KAMEI, Mochi Jr. & Riiita) took on Fujii, Yanagiuchi, Fuda & Sahara in a really fun 8-Man. Several fun interactions, in particular between Mochi Jr. and Yanagiuchi. In the end, Fuda would hit Mochi Jr. with the Hiryu to get the win.

>Ryoya Tanaka would defend the Brave Gate Championship against Masaaki Mochizuki in a fun match. Mochi would use his kicks and slaps to punish his former trainee, but Tanaka would respond by using his speed and quickness to run circles around Mochi. Mochi would go for a Moonsault at one point, showing he’s still very spry. In the end, Tanaka would wear Mochi down with knee strikes before hitting the Stardust Press to get the pin-fall and retain.

>YAMATO, Dragon Kid & Kazuma Kimura would take on Yuma Aoyagi, Atsuki Aoyagi & Ryo Inoue of AJPW in a cross-promotional Trios match. YAMATO would show his more disrespectful side, especially towards Inoue, while also having a nice back-and-forth with Yuma. Dragon Kid and Atsuki would also have a fun exchange, showing off their Junior-Heavyweight speed. In the end, Inoue would get the best of the young Kimura, submitting him with the Boston Crab.

>Ryo Inoue would get into a brawl with Mochi Jr. after the match. Yuma & Atsuki would proclaim they wished to team with YAMATO & Dragon Kid. This all seems like setup for Naruki Doi’s 25th Anniversary show on November 7th, which will be a DG/AJPW inter-promotional show.

>Team Mexico (Mante, Flamita & Bendito) would defend the Triangle Gate against Dragon Bane, Alpha Wolf & Super Crazy of NOAH, in a 2-out-of-3-falls match. Very fast-paced Lucha Libre Trios match. Bane would get the first fall for his team, hitting Flamita with the Santa Maria. Flamita would get the second fall for his team, hitting Bane with the Firebird Splash. Mante would get the final fall for Team Mexico, hitting Crazy with the Super Tigre.

>KAI, ISHIN & Yoshiki Kato would make the next challenge for the Triangle Gate Belts.

>Kota Minoura & Jason Lee would defend the Twin Gate Titles against Yuki Yoshioka & Dragon Dia. Much of the match consisted of Minoura & Lee working over Dia and cutting him off from tagging in Yoshioka. Dia and Lee would have some pretty fun exchanges. In the end, Yoshioka would hit Minoura with the High Fly Flow to get the pinfall; Yoshioka & Dia become the new Twin Gate Champs!

>Main Event would see Shun Skywalker defend the Open the Dream Gate Championship against Madoka Kikuta. Kikuta would dominate Shun for a majority of the match, using his power and viciousness to overwhelm Shun. Shun would look more vulnerable than he has in a good while, struggling to get some momentum going, as Kikuta battered him with Hip Attacks and Lariats. Z-Brats would get involved, helping Kikuta regain the advantage, ending in Kikuta hitting a Rolling Lariat to pin Shun; Kikuta becomes a 2-time Open Dream Gate Champ.

>Following the main event, Kikuta would declare Z-Brats was no more, as he, KAI, ISHIN, Minoura, Lee & Kato will be a new group going forward, yet to be named.

>Should be noted that Shun’s reign is actually the 3rd shortest in company history, coming in at 35 days, with Shingo Takagi’s reign in 2013 coming at 33 days and Jimmy Susumu’s reign in 2016 lasting only 21 days.

speaking of idk if this is a hot take, but Kojima should have won this. You could still have Kawada get the long run later on, but they waited way too long to give Kojima a big win. Especially considering they had Goldberg squash him in one of the weirdest booking decisions in 2002. And that's with the WWE going batshit insane on RAW at the same time.

>The group is the successor to “M&A Pro-Wrestling,” which had disbanded after running shows in April and June this year. The name comes from a proposal made by NOSAWA Rongai back in 1997, when DDT was founded, though it was rejected at the time.

>Before the show began, Takagi entered the ring together with MIKAMI, confessing he had considered ending the group after just this one event. However, seeing solid turnout, he changed his mind and announced a second show for 10/14 at Shinjuku FACE.

>Although Takagi has been on an indefinite hiatus since July last year, after the main event he entered the ring and declared, “I’ll be back before the end of the year!” He revealed, “I can’t say when exactly, but since I created this Super Japan Pro-Wrestling, I want to have an exhibition match here before my return,” and announced a five-minute, one-fall exhibition against non-wrestler Sawa Munenori for the Shinjuku event.

>After the show, appearing in the comment booth, Takagi explained, “My condition and the situation have been improving quite a bit. Among the members who always come up, Sawa-kun is someone I have a deep attachment to. I want to do an exhibition that goes beyond the bounds of an exhibition.” Meanwhile, Yuji Nagata of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, whom Takagi had appointed as the ace of Super Japan Pro-Wrestling, appeared in the main event under the name Baramon Yuji, teaming with Baramon Shu & Kei and putting on a tremendous performance. Takagi praised him, saying, “The ace of Super Japan Pro-Wrestling is Nagata-san; everything revolves around him. Without Nagata-san, Super Japan Pro-Wrestling could not exist,” while also expressing high expectations for Nagata’s match against Shinya Aoki at the 10/14 Shinjuku event.

NOAH ref Nakayama Shinichi blogs about setting up at Korakuen. End of it is behind a paywall.

>August 16 was our 10th Korakuen Hall event this year.
>Noah fans always cheer and applaud with such energy that I think it’s amazing! But especially at Korakuen, the cheers fly around at full power every time. Whether it’s in the ring, outside the ring, backstage, or in the seats, the way the sound resonates and the way it feels must be different, but when I hear cheers that reverberate through my whole body, it really fires me up and makes me think, “I have to referee properly!” We always do our best so everyone can enjoy the show, but to me there is no production greater than the fans’ cheers. You create the ultimate space where the wrestlers can bring out their full strength. Thank you so much, always!

>That day I left at 1:00pm in a truck with one of the trainees.
>He’s a big fan of Kaya Kiyohara and a huge drama lover. I love dramas too, so of course we talked about dramas the whole way. By the way, it was also him who recommended me “Chihayafuru -Meguri-,” which I’m hooked on right now. Ami Touma is so cute, isn’t she! While exchanging our impressions of the dramas we were watching, we arrived at Korakuen Hall in no time.

>Setup for the Korakuen event began at 2:00pm.
>Each venue has its own rules for setup, and the methods vary. Since we’ve been to Korakuen many times, once the ring staff gathers, setup naturally begins. First, we load boards, steel frames, and other necessary items onto the freight elevator and bring them up to the 5th floor. To minimize the number of trips, even the order of loading tools onto the elevator is fixed (like Tetris), so the work proceeds smoothly without hesitation. It was tough learning this at first, but now I’ve gotten used to it and can load everything efficiently.

>At DDT’s Ueno show on the 20th, Jun Akiyama (55), who is set to challenge for the KO-D Openweight Championship, clashed in a 3-Way tag battle with Kazusada Higuchi (36) and Yuki Ueno (29).

>The KO-D title will first be defended on the 30th at Tokyo’s Higashin Arena, where reigning champion Higuchi faces Akiyama in his second defense. The winner will then meet Ueno the following day, the 31st, at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall. On this day, the three squared off in a 3-Way tag match. The furious back-and-forth, with six men constantly cycling in and out, unfolded both inside and outside the ring.

>Akiyama, who started the match, struck Ueno with chops and headbutts on the floor, then returned to the ring to spike him with a piledriver. He then exchanged chops with Higuchi before throwing him with an exploder, showing off his sharp form. In the end, he hurled Ishida with a wrist-clutch exploder to score the three-count, leading to an intense staredown with Higuchi and Ueno.

>After the match, Akiyama gave a fearless smile: “It’s good that I managed to win this preliminary match, but the real thing is nothing like this.” This will be his first challenge since losing the title in August 2021, but he brimmed with confidence about reclaiming it: “The real match is one-on-one. That’s where I’m strongest and can show my true power.”

They really felt like they were coming up a year or two ago. But they've leaned way more into comedy in the last year or so. It's just not for me. >At GLEAT’s Gotanda show on the 21st, Katsuhiko Nakajima (37), the double champion holding both the G-REX and LIDET UWF World titles, called on Tetsuya Izutsu (25) to form a tag team.

>Earlier that day, Nakajima faced Izutsu one-on-one in the opening match. Izutsu came forward with a roar, unleashing kicks and elbows that even drove Nakajima to the floor at one point. But Nakajima regained control, locking in a headlock that had Izutsu writhing in pain. He soon unleashed a Vertical Spike, followed by punishing kicks and elbows that inflicted heavy damage.

>As Izutsu kept fighting back, Nakajima barked at him with commands like “Come on more!” while trading kicks. In the closing stretch, Izutsu nearly caught him in an armlock, giving a scare, but Nakajima escaped and intensified his assault. In the end, a slap followed by a sleeper hold put Izutsu out, with the referee stopping the match.

>Afterward, Nakajima spoke to the revived Izutsu: “I told you in Shinjuku last time, didn’t I? ‘I like those eyes of yours that look like they’re out to take the head of someone above you.’ But back in Shinjuku you were hopeless. Now though—your eyes are looking a little better. I don’t know how much your rough fighting, your rough emotions, are getting through to the audience. But that’s fine. Just put your utmost out in this ring.” He added, “Have the resolve to walk this path of pro wrestling. I’ll face you anytime. But after fighting you today, I also thought—teaming with you would be interesting.” With that, he unexpectedly called for them to form a tag.

>Though Izutsu showed hesitation, Nakajima told him, “This is just my feeling,” without pressing for an immediate answer. He noted that in his own youth, he had learned much by teaming with senior wrestlers. Could this be the birth of a new tag team?

>At the DDT Pro Wrestling Korakuen Hall event on July 13th, trainee Kasai Hinata, 171cm tall and weighing 79kg, appeared in the information corner after the dark match. Hinata greeted the audience by saying, "I want to savor all the different emotions and do my best to run towards the big dream I have set for myself," and continued by mentioning the name of "death match guru" Kasai Jun, saying, "I want to become a wrestler who surpasses my father, Kasai Jun, so please come to the Higashin Arena event on August 30th."

>When did you realize that your father was a professional wrestler?
>Hinata: I was aware of it even before I could remember. I think my dad would take me to wrestling venues from a young age. So I was surrounded by wrestling as a matter of course.

>So did you originally intend to become a professional wrestler?
>Hinata: It was always in the back of my mind, somewhere. I think I'd been saying "I want to be a professional wrestler" since I was in kindergarten. But then I gave up.

>Why is that?
>Hinata: I tried a lot of different sports, but I wasn't able to achieve any results. I didn't have any outstanding physical abilities.
>So I thought, "It's impossible for me to become a professional wrestler," and quit sports for a while. I didn't play sports in middle school or high school. However, when I entered university and started thinking about my future, I wondered, "Is it really okay for me to just give up on my dream?"
>So I decided to try again to become a professional wrestler, which had been my dream since I was a child. From that point on, I started to work on my physique.

>What exactly do you mean?
>Hinata: I started going to the gym and taking up martial arts. I enjoyed MMA and kickboxing, but grappling was the one I enjoyed the most. Then I naturally got stronger.

>How did you end up joining DDT?
>Hinata: Of all the wrestling organizations, I thought DDT was the one that was working on a variety of things. Of course, I also talked to my father about it, and he advised me that DDT would be a good choice.

>It wasn't Jun Kasai's Freedoms, was it?
>Hinata: Even if I did the same things as my father, I don't think I could beat him as a professional wrestler.
>When I announced my debut at Korakuen Hall on July 13th, I said, "I want to become a wrestler who surpasses my father." Jun Kasai is a great wrestler. When I said "surpass" in the ring, I didn't just mean "surpassing him in a death match." Of course, I think there is also a way to surpass him in the context of a death match.
>However, I would like to surpass him in other ways as a "professional wrestler." I joined DDT because I thought I would be able to experience many different aspects of professional wrestling. So I feel there are many possibilities for "surpassing my father's presence."

>Did your father ever say anything specific like, "This is what's good about DDT?"
>Hinata: It's a truly free atmosphere, and they say it's "pro wrestling without restrictions" and "it's full of all kinds of possibilities."

>When did you join DDT?
Hinata: It was August 2024, exactly one year ago, when I was a third-year university student. I was surprised that even ropework and simple ukemi were different from what I had imagined.
>When I actually tried to do something that I had always taken for granted, I was shocked at how difficult it was. It was like a stark contrast to the image I had of it. I was shocked to see that my father was doing something so difficult as if it were a given.

>You're currently a fourth-year university student. What's your practice pace?
>Hinata: It's difficult to practice every day because I have to balance my studies, but I go to the dojo three to four times a week

>“The Rampaging President” Suwama (48), leader of Pro-Wrestling Evolution, made his first appearance in GLEAT and caused a stir.

>On the 21st, Suwama stormed into GLEAT’s Gotanda show alongside his ally Shuji Ishikawa (49). Sharing his impression of the promotion, he said, “It’s the group my teacher Hayashi (Kaz Hayashi) is running, right? My image of it? It gives off a refined impression.” But when asked about Katsuhiko Nakajima (37), who holds both the G-REX and LIDET UWF World titles, Suwama gave a cold response to his old verbal sparring rival: “Nakajima…? Who’s that? I don’t know him. Anyway, I’m off to look for the mastermind now, so can we end this interview?”

>In the match, he and Ishikawa faced T-Hawk & Ryo Aitaka. From the start Suwama went into rampage mode, running wild all over the compact venue. In the end, he crushed Aitaka with a devastating Rock Drop and scored the three-count, then grabbed the mic in true domineering style: “Hey! Isn’t there anyone more interesting around here?”

>Afterward, at T-Hawk’s request, a showdown was set for GLEAT’s September 18 show at Tokyo City Hall & Gallery Gotanda. Suwama barked, “I haven’t rampaged enough yet! Doesn’t GLEAT have anything more exciting?” He went further, declaring, “I’ll take all of GLEAT’s fans over to Evolution!” Ishikawa hyped him up with, “That’s our president!” leaving Suwama pleased.

Shiozaki's covid-era reign was amazing, easily the best champion of that period anywhere on the planet but he's paid a price. Sugiura, on the other hand, just seems to power on ahead. I can't recall the last time he had an injury or prolonged absence. I could see him being like Suzuki or Fujiwara, just showing up to random shows in legends multi-man matches. Never implied he couldn't still go, just that he can't go like he did a decade ago. He's slowly adjusted his style and has adapted to a different pace.

His match July with Kenoh more than proved he can go at a main event level. Hell, I'll go a step further and argue that he can still elevate lesser wrestlers... his match with OZAWA in May was excellent. OZAWA oozes charisma but still lacks in-ring, so that boost was all KENTA in my opinion.

He's not the KENTA of 2007~2009, not even the KENTA of 2013 but he's still more than capable.

>At the opening round of All Japan Pro-Wrestling’s “King’s Road Tournament” (Aug 24, Tokyo Korakuen Hall), ace Kento Miyahara (36) defeated Kengo Mashimo (46), making a strong start toward his third tournament victory.

>Miyahara entered the ring brimming with energy, but from the start his right knee was targeted with dragon screws and low kicks, leaving him writhing in pain. In mid-match apron exchanges, he was lifted and dropped knee-first. Even when he went for the Blackout, it was countered by a kick, leaving him unable to find an opening.

>In the closing stretch, he was trapped in a leglock, nearly forced to give up. But he somehow reached the ropes, then dodged a decisive high kick and grabbed Mashimo from behind. From there he muscled him up and planted him with his deadly Shutdown Suplex Hold, snatching a dramatic three-count victory.

>With a triumphant win, Miyahara roared, “First victory, got it! To beat Kengo Mashimo right out of the gate is the best possible start.” His second-round opponent (Sept 6, Tochigi, Light Cube Utsunomiya) was set as Naoya Nomura, who had just defeated Yuma Aoyagi in the preceding match. Miyahara reflected, “Naoya Nomura, the Nomura I know, we were once teammates in NEXTREAM. If you ask me whether I have attachment or not, of course I do…”

>But he continued, “That said, I have no intention of showing any kindness. And I certainly won’t be lost in memories. September 6, Utsunomiya—Naoya Nomura, let’s fight!” His fighting spirit was blazing.

I wouldn't even notice Anzai's absence... if they booked somebody worth a damn, and not some tag team guy. The Saito Brothers are great but world champ material they are not.

You can't put the belt back on Miyahara, that's a well trodden path amd there's no angle for it right now. Aoyagi needs a bit of a work, plus another failed run would be dire. Ashino should have been main event caliber ages ago, like when he was slowly chopping down Suwama and winning the Champions Carnival... but an ill-timed injury and stop/start booking has taken the wind out of his sails.

I'd have put the belt on Hideki Suzuki. Then I would have asked DDT, GLEAT, Evolution, BJW, FREEDOMS, etc if they'd be interested in hosting challenges to the title, etc.

All Japan roster alone is too small and their tour dates to few to just put itself into a holding pattern until Anzai returns.

No. New Japan has always been #1 in the country. Even when it was weak in the 2000s it was still #1. NOAH has the backing, but they don't have the fanbase. They have decades of dumb decisions they probably can't recover from. AJPW is an indie with a famous name. Dragongate has their niche, but they kinda live in their own bubble.
I don't follow joshi but isn't Stardom already knocking at their door?

Japanese fans are different than American fans. NOAH fans only watch NOAH, NJPW to NJPW etc. It's not universal, but that's mostly the case. Japanese fans still care about their individual favorites more than American fans too.

I bring that up cause I do think Naito would make a difference to NOAH if he ends up there. His fans would probably follow him.

Ironically it was the most interesting I found Okada since his Marufuji matches. Cause he just killed Kaito instead of forcing an epic. Remember that fucking match where Suzuki worked his leg for like 25 minutes and he immediately no sold it in the finish? I never got over that kek

He's Bret Hart then?

Most wrestlers are self-marks, his ego outweighs his station but it's only an issue when he's asked to job... and if he's been given the title and booked to win it's not an issue.

Your appreciation of his skillset or character is immaterial. All Japan treated his signing with notable fanfare and obviously Japan sees things in him as he's been entrusted to carry titles in every company he's worked for; NOAH, BJW, Zero1, Inoki Genome, etc. He seems to have earned thier respect.

>>18655746
Not a chance. No fed in Japan has even been close to usurping NJPW in decades. If AJPW couldn't do it in the 80's or 90's and NOAH couldn't when NJPW was at their lowest point in the 2000's then it will never happen.

NJPW is far stronger financially than it was in the 2000's, and the competition are nowhere near their historical peaks.
