Wrestling 30 years ago was making more off live tickets than wrestling today without adjusting the amounts for inflation. Everything consolidating down to the WWF pushed things to the moon but that was when they had Hogan or Savage or Warrior. As soon as they had to rely on the B team the entire business took a shit and the only thing that kept it going was there being somewhere else for the guys who drew money to keep it going until Steve Austin and The Rock blew it up even more. But when they rolled off into the sunset and it was back to the B team there was no WCW. Even if there was there would not have been anyone to go there and give the business a kick in the ass. Austin and Rock were definitively done. You didn't have Hogan or Savage or Sting or Flair. There weren't any moves that could be made that would actually shock the business.

Throw out any crazy bullshit you want and it wouldn't have mattered. Triple H jumps to TNA, prime Tanahashi flies over to appear on Raw, Cena turns heel.. None of it would have mattered. The WWF going into a slump drug the whole business down with it and now it's a long climb back up.

AEW exists but what is the fight over? Who can grab the most of a roughly 2 million person audience? Who can juice the last dimes out of the only guys left who even vaguely had star power? This isn't fighting for being the top rated show on cable or prestige or anything except who gets to be king carny retard. The dimes left the building and these fags are fighting over pennies.

NTA but I was born in 2001 and grew up watching Ruthless Aggression and early PG era, I can tell you right now that wrestling was at its absolute peak from 1996 to 2001. I prefer watching old Attitude Era or NWO WCW era episodes over RA or PG ones. Dismissing all criticisms of the modern product and praises of the old product with muh nostalgia goggles is a lazy argument.

That's literally not true lmao, they didn't even hold any events in a stadium until WM 17, and they were also cheaper tickets even with inflation

Looking at it like that is exactly why the business is buttfucked now. I was talking about tickets sold across the entire year, across the entire country. Live attendance is what makes wrestling work. Wrestling is only good TV when they have a full audience going crazy. There only being the WWF and now AEW strangles the business out because if you don't care for what either of them are doing you are just not watching or going to shows. There are no shows to go to even if you wanted, I live around what was a major area for wrestling 30 years ago and there isn't shit. Not even indy shows with 20 people in a high school gym. Nothing.

The WWF model only works when you have guys who can draw and if you go too long without it becomes a death spiral like we have today. Now it dosen't fucking matter who you have. Stone Cold Steve Austin Part 2: No Broken Neck and 11 Inch Dick could show up and light the world of wrestling on fire and it would look like a candle to anyone looking from the outside.

Wrestling today is generally very inferior but it has the potential to be even greater imo. but it won't because most wrestling companies are run by corporate retards instead of wily old carnies. The old carnies knew how to make it work. Then Vince killed the carnival and all the carnies had to come work for either him or WCW. I think there are people in the business today who could be the next megastar but they wont because these companies are so retarded. they are pushing the worst and burying the best, and that has consequences over time.

No one does, hence the point of forcing these corporations to stop putting this garbage in and go back to the way it used to be (or somewhat close to it).
Sorry if you lost the argument that "food is the same now as it was then, chud!"

>Can you show me how many stadium shows they were selling out during the period of time Corny talks about?
With the exception very recent wrestlemanias, shows weren't booked in stadium. But to your point, WM3 and Summerslam at Wembley did sold out stadium crowds. Back then they did more house shows, so "WWF coming to your town" was a more common thing. Now that it's less common, more people will attend the tv show event. You are also only putting everything through the lens of show attendance. WWE used to have 5 million viewers vs WCWs 4.5 million. Today WWE is lucky to get 3 million views. There were just more fans back then. Much more.

It's not about the paying. He doesn't know how to use his smart TV and refuses to learn. He ordered the PPVs every month for like $80 each, but his cable got rid of the PPV station, so now he has to watch by streaming and he doesn't know how. His fat whale wife set up Peacock for him so he could watch Summerslam, and then he read an article where you get streaming subs for free if you're paying for cable to begin with and got excited, but then he realized you have to link your cable provider account with the streaming account, and he also has no idea how to do this, or how to make an account.
It's a really great peak into the average boomer mindset in action
