Wrestling 30 years ago was making more off live tickets than wrestling today without adjusting the amounts for inflation. Everything consolidating down to the WWF pushed things to the moon but that was when they had Hogan or Savage or Warrior. As soon as they had to rely on the B team the entire business took a shit and the only thing that kept it going was there being somewhere else for the guys who drew money to keep it going until Steve Austin and The Rock blew it up even more. But when they rolled off into the sunset and it was back to the B team there was no WCW. Even if there was there would not have been anyone to go there and give the business a kick in the ass. Austin and Rock were definitively done. You didn't have Hogan or Savage or Sting or Flair. There weren't any moves that could be made that would actually shock the business.
Throw out any crazy bullshit you want and it wouldn't have mattered. Triple H jumps to TNA, prime Tanahashi flies over to appear on Raw, Cena turns heel.. None of it would have mattered. The WWF going into a slump drug the whole business down with it and now it's a long climb back up.
AEW exists but what is the fight over? Who can grab the most of a roughly 2 million person audience? Who can juice the last dimes out of the only guys left who even vaguely had star power? This isn't fighting for being the top rated show on cable or prestige or anything except who gets to be king carny retard. The dimes left the building and these fags are fighting over pennies.
