That's flat out not a thing. WWE doesn't even have a "noncompete" clause. When they lay someone off they give them 3 months pay and you can technically go and wrestle the next day, you just forfeit your 3 months severance pay when you appear at a different company.

You're 100% correct. This shit got floated by meltzer years ago probably because tony was aware of the NFL's bylaws against going to a coach/player before the end of the season/contract. It's only penalties are internal to the NFL. If tony writes in his clause to his wrestlers that they can't talk until the end of their contract WWE wouldn't be liable for contacting them. Maybe the IC could be invalidated (unfucking likely) but there is no such thing as contract tampering between independent contractors in pro wrestling.
