It is unironically true. It's the nature of smarks. They want to be in on something. So they like getting behind someone they can tell is doing well and is going to be a big deal down the line. Then the time comes that person actually sees it through and makes it and that's where the turn happens. Because everyone else now starts to like this person too, the smarks don't feel as special. They'll jerk themselves off at first and be like 'I liked this person ever since this time' but no one actually gives a shit so eventually they become bitter and resent the thing they liked. It's hipster bullshit 101. You see it any time a band makes it big and especially if they change their sound up after that point
