Brandi wanted to be a wrestler and wanted the women’s title. TK said “she’s got to prove herself” and she got really offended, arguing that she had already done that. She then told Cody to make her winning the title part of his next contract. AEW didn’t allow that, the deal fell apart, and Cody doesn’t want to be seen as Brandi having his balls in her bag, so to speak, so he doesn’t want to talk about it.

Cody was unhappy with the booking direction of AEW so he pitched a second show that he would have complete creative control over as part of his renewal conditions. That obviously didn't happen so he decided to sign with WWE to spite Tony for not giving him what he wanted. The reason he's so salty is because Tony basically used Cody's idea to appease CM Punk when he was having his little bitch fit. It actually had nothing to do with Brandi or heat with the rest of the Elite.

He wanted a major league payday like the main eventers but he's still ultimately one of the better midcarders you could ask for. If he'd just killed his ego a bit, maybe it could have worked. You can tell it's not going well in WWE all of a sudden the way he keeps bringing this shit up.

This is probably the only based thing Tony has ever done in his entire life, but allegedly when Cody and Brandi were trying to play hardball with contracts and whatnot Tony straight up told Brandi to get on her knees and suck his dick in front of Cody otherwise they could both fuck off kek. cody booked himself into a position that didn't allow growth in aew. they could have just retconned it but even if they had the cap on earning potential is much lower in aew. aew pays much better than wwe for probably 90% of wrestlers, maybe more, relative to the amount they have to work but wwe still has the highest earning potential overall. cody probably had discussions with vince and wwe and they were willing to sign him to an actual "top guy" contract which is always going to pay more than a "top guy" aew contract and if they were willing to pay him top guy money than he knew they would want to utilize him as a top guy.

Cody never planned to stay long term otherwise he wouldn't have made the stipulation to challenge for the AEW belt ever again. If anything early AEW really needed Cody to stay in the main event scene and actually be feuding with guys like Jericho, Mox, and Kenny instead of playing in the midcard with guys like Ogogo. Other than that I do think Cody was asshurt the fans turned on him and Brandi but I think that's more of a secondary reason for leaving. I also think he lost his pull with Tony pretty quickly as more people signed on and got a hold of Tony's ear. All of that said I think people exaggerate how much heat there is. If WWE pissed Cody off I think he'd easily go back to AEW and Tony would easily take him.
