Just to get a show to happen.
He insisted on keeping wrestling going through the 9/11 entertainment blackout.
It took a lot of persuasion to get cleared for hosting Raw and broadcasting it live, but he got it done and became the first live entertainment show back in active business.
Opened it with a patriotic speech too, iirc. Maybe it happened a little later in the show, not sure.
Everyone else followed after that.
Vince's "you can't fuck with me enough to upset me anymore" attitude, which stems from the child abuse he endured, is what made that happen. 9/11 was harsh on a lot of Americans but not Vince, he soldiered on.
We saw the same thing with covid. The show never really stopped then, and according to Mark Henry who worked there at the time, Vince laughed at the mask mandates and joker about people who wore them.
