star is one of those words, like many nowadays, that almost everyone has their own opinion on the meaning. some ppl take star to mean a wrestler who has transcended wrestling and is known outside the business. if this is the definition, only Vince has accomplished it. if the definition is a wrestler who was relatively unknown, but is now known by all wrestling fans, then OP is 100% correct

What stars has Tony made? He just signed a bunch of ex-WWE guys, and over pushes his "homegrown" talent.

AEW had MJF throw out the first pitch at a Mets game as AEW Champion, in MJF's "hometown" and nobody knew who the fuck he was. His entire run as AEW Champion exposed how truly unready MJF was to be a star, and Tony just kept doubling down on it until he got injured and had to lose the belt.
