>The dojo is a place to train body and spirit.
>Water breaks? You’re ten years too early for that!!

Odashima:
>The dojo is a place to train body and spirit—
>on that point, I agree.

>But going without water is a different matter.
>You’ll die before it’s about spirit or anything else.

>The NOAH dojo doesn’t need darkness.
>If you have the will to move forward with all your strength toward your dreams, then you don’t need this kind of guts theory.

>I’ll be taking this down.

>I thought, “Either someone with completely warped sensibilities is at the top, or this company is incompetent,” and even as a young wrestler I was left holding my head.

>Two years later—
>I’m glad I came back before the sinking ship went completely under.

>Tetsuya Endo said entering this year’s N1 Victory tournament in NOAH is his restart point for revenge. Although he means it more in a rivalry way between DDT and NOAH rather than something out of spite. He also gave a rundown of his A Block opponents.
>Endo believes his match with Kaito Kiyomiya will have the strongest sense of a DDT Vs NOAH rivalry to it. He thinks Kiyomiya still holds onto the memories of losing to Yuki Ueno back in 2021.
>KENTA is who Endo is most interested in because he is the GHC Champion, has name value and it will be on the last day of matches for the A Block. Endo wants to win at all costs because this match will carry the most weight
>While Endo congratulates Konosuke Takeshita for winning the G1, he feels regret over it because Takeshita is always a step or two ahead even when Endo beats him. However he appreciates having the extra pressure added to win the N1.
>If Endo reaches the final he would most want to fight either OZAWA or Kenoh. Either opponent fits his idea of using this tournament for revenge.

Probably disappointed that his "son" followed in his footsteps a little too closely.

If anything, Nakajima's crimes were much less than Sasaki's, while the penalties were much worse. Sasaki accidentally killed a guy, and he won multiple titles albeit as a journeyman. Nakajima knocked a guy out and he's been relegated to GLEAT.

I wonder what they gonna do with Hirata tho the tag belts are firmly attached to two heavyweight and the extreme is being played around with the younger guys.
The universal is a big mystery to me because like you i thought they would give it back to MAO. Masada seems a bit weird of a choice, since not none of your top players could beat him.

>>18662919
>NOAH
Solid as hell N-1 tournament this year, they'll have to work hard to find a poor winner from this crop. Kitamiya should win but I'd be happy with Kenoh, Soya, Kiyomiya, OZAWA, Fujita, KENTA, or even Sasaki

>>18690769

Peter Pan was the first 2-day show in ages that was solid on both days. Day 1 looked weak but was surprisingly enjoyable, very easy watch with a sterling main event paying tribute to the past. Day 2 was top-to-bottom rock solid, great tags, great comedy, midcard, and main event that heralded the future.

>Dragon Gate
Thought I'd drop the promotion for a while after YAMATO dropped the title but I can't stop watching the development with Skywalker.

>BJW / FREEDOMS
DeathMania show was okay, kind of surprised with result for Buzzard vs Hashimoto. Didn't care for AKIRA's match. Feast of the FREE was okay as well, disappointing barefoot and junior matches but tags were okay and main was good.

>Evolution / GLEAT
Hoping the hints of a feud between these companies pays off... Suwama vs Nakajima would be great.

>BASARA
Saw two most recent shows... or, at least, the main events and tags. I need to see more! These were phenomenal, didn't think much of Ryota Nakatsu before but now I'm hooked.

>Misc.
The Ganbare Pro event for 9/1 looks neat, and I still need to see the Hikaru Sato show because I'm a sucker for outdoor shows.

On a week-to-week basis?

I'm very hesitant to say NOAH, because history dictates that they will fuck it up and soon, but they're the fed with the most potential right now.

DDT has the highest highs of any company right now, but their weekly shows are pretty dull.

DragonGate is similar, their big shows are very consistently good-to-great but their lessor shows are repetitive as hell.

AJPW refuses to book competently, but could recover briefly when Anzai comes back from injury. They have a lot of young talent and some very good veterans but they don't want to use them. Also, they have fewer shows so you might find yourself waiting around between tournaments and big events.

The deathmatch feds have less to offer unless you really only want deathmatch stuff. BJPW has their strong division but the heyday of that group is in the past... Sekimoto and Okabayashi were carrying that brand unfortunately. The Astronauts were carrying the tag division. All of them are gone and Hashimoto's boy isn't cutting it. FREEDOMS comparatively has less diversity of style but has better deathmatch guys and more inventive stipulations.

I haven't seen enough BASARA, HEAT-Up, Ganbare, Evolution, GLEAT, etc. in order to judge. I stick to the highlights. I will say Kyushu Pro is surprisingly easy to watch and they upload everything to YouTube.

When it comes to Japanese indy shows I typically look for any events that feature: Hikaru Sato, Minoru Suzuki, Fuminori Abe, Takuya Nomura, El Desperado, GENTARO, Mochizuk, Yuji Hino, Keita Yano, or Jun Kasai. Usually, some combination of these guys will produce at least one watchable match.

AJPW is in this weird state where it feels like it's both in a holding position and suffering an identity crisis. I don't know how else to put it. Feels like they're already sliding Kento down the card and he's not even 40. Granted he's been around so long there's not much ground left to cover. I'd really like to see him go Freelance. Him regularly mixing it up in NJPW and NOAH would be so exciting. I'd love to see him get a big Tokyo Dome match.

I've never particularly cared for gaijin in BJPW, except for Walter back in the day. Buzzard is... acceptable in the strong division and Crane had at least a decent Junior title challenge earlier this year. AKIRA was a snooze. Over in FREEDOMS there's Violento Jack, whom I don't mind.

>>18708984
Pretty much, yeah. What's worse is that I was/am an AJPW fag even before NOAH existed... so I'm quite accustomed to garbage and crushing disappointment. They're cursed... Jumbo retired early because of disease, Kawada had an awfully timed injury, so did Ashino... and now Anzai. They never pushed Hase when he left NJPW. Didn't put Choshu in the Carnival when he was red hot, they had him flame out before the semi finals twice in the Real World Tag League.

One of the weirdest booking decisions for AJPW was having Misawa beat Jumbo once... and then NEVER again. Misawa lost 3 straight to Jumbo after beating him the 1 time, then Junbo retired. It was booking blue balls in hindsight... and it's not like Jumbo was winding down and they didn't have enough time, Jumbo won the Champion Carnival after losing to Misawa. He won the tag titles twice after Misawa. He won the motherfucking Triple Crown AND held it for over a year AFTER the loss to Misawa... hell, he defended the title against Misawa and Kawada. Beating both before losing to Hansen. It's mind boggling in hindsight.

Whoops... went on a bit of a rant there. Needless to say, I'm used to getting beaten up by bad luck and bad booking.

That was a great era, and needlessly ended too early. I think NOAH creative was just paranoid that Kongo would grow too popular and then they'd be forced to drag it out... like nWo or Suzuki-gun or Bullet Club or something. Ending it prematurely as a result, then driving Nakajima out kind of killed hype. Not to mention putting the Muto, not using Muto to put anyone over, aborting Kenoh multiple times, cooling off Kiyomiya anytime he gained any momentum, putting the belt on Kojima, letting Fujita vacate the title, putting Jake Lee over the entire roster, etc.

His most exciting match in years was the Nakajima rivalry, otherwise nothing is fresh. He seems content to just trade wins and put over the younger guys. Admirable but boring.

I try to watch any indy super shows he's booked in or any of his rare crossover company matches. Miyahara could comfortably jump into the main event scene of any fed in Japan but... oh well.

>Jumbo Tsuruta
Tenryu had a better, longer, more fulfilling career that spanned decades across all the major companies, even made it to the WWF and was protected. The only guy to have pinned Baba and Inoki, he also won both world title of NJPW and AJPW, told Baba to fuck off and formed his own company, went on to carry and do great business with NJPW with an interpromotional feud, then came back to Baba's dead fed once his corpse was already rotting six feet under because he's a fucking chad and his widow was on her kness sucking his dick begging him to come back to save it, which he did, put the company on his back and won the world title again and gave them life for 2-3 years just to prove he was the man then telling them to fuck off again before basically becoming semi retired. Tsuruta, on the other hand, is literally bitch made. His dog like loyalty basically meant he was never the guy or broke out of his comfort zone as his prime was solely intertwined with Baba's so he was always second fiddle and by the time he could be the guy Tenryu was right neck to neck with him. Then when he was about to be the guy again after Tenryu left Misawa and gang took his spot, and then he fucking died LMAO. Nobody remembers him today except obese smelly smarks who mark out for his "5 star matches" because Dave Meltzer told them to. Tenryu's real GOAT case is his bulletproof resume. Like go through his entire career and he literally done it all. Need him to work the classic king road style epic matches? Checked. Need him to have a 5 minutes balls to the walls sprints? Checked. Oh you want him to wrestle the cult figure of deathmatch during the deathmatch craze of 90s Japan inside a fucking exploding barbwired cage? Done that too. Then came the shoot style guys and he just looked like a grumpy old hag sandbagging all the kickpad shitters? Got that too. After completing all his side quests returned to the promotion he started and won the triple crown once more on a generational grandpa run? FUCKING CHECKED. As a semi retired special attraction figure going around to sock the younger generation in their face with chops and punches? Yeah of course that too. Tenryu faced them all, all the legends, all his peers. Home promotion, rival promotions, any kind of match types it didn't matter, he was going to draw the house and pop the crowd wherever he went. To be fair Baba's philosphy was the walled garden. The older he got the less he wanted to work with outsiders. There were a few outliers, like when Onita asked if he could borrow some talent for a Kawasaki show and Baba sent Kenta Kobashi and Maunakea Mossman as long as the match wasn't filmed, but that was incredibly rare and Onita was Baba's first student and so Baba had a soft spot for him.

If you are interested in what AJPW under baba looked like from the inside you should track down a copy of Stan Hansen's autobiograqphy, The Last Outlaw. It's a very cool read and Stan come across like a big goofy and affable man.

I would say Morishima, only if he focused on getting fit, so let's keep the belt on Kobashi until January 2006 in this scenario.

Next scenario could be Kensuke Sasaki who holds the belt as an invader, and have him drop the belt to Morishima when he gets fit.

The obvious answer is Akiyama, even if not @ Departure 2004 book him for a 2nd challenge. He was always meant to be the first Ace of NOAH and the younger guys were years away from relevancy. Akiyama carried the AJPW bloodline and was essentially the 5th pillar of heaven. He was also healthier and younger than the rest of the top guys.

After that obvious choice you could have had Suzuki win @ Great Voyage 2005 and hold the belt as an outsider. Takayama was too soon into the legendary reign for it to make sense.

As >>18721478 suggested you wait for Kensuke Sasaki and have him heel it up as an unstoppable invader.

Out of the younger guys at the time only Morishima was capable. Marufuji, KENTA and Sugiura were still juniors. Shiozaki was still a young boy.

In my crazed fanboy brain the only other alternative would be to bring in Hiroshi Hase and put the GHC on the legend!

Thanks, appreciate the info.

Honestly, not sure how I would want this to shake out... Shibata/KENTA seems like a good pair, but I'd prefer them against each other. Marufuji teamed with Suzuki early in his career, so there'd be some nostalgia if they were paired but I like them better as enemies.

Suzuki/Shibata vs Marufuji/KENTA seems ideal, but Suzuki/KENTA vs Marufuji/Shibata could be okay... certainly unique.

>What remains after jealousy burns out—?

>Noah’s “Mad Prince” Kaito Kiyomiya (29) opened up in an interview ahead of the N-1 Victory singles league, kicking off September 8 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall. Over the past eight months, the very center of the Ark has been taken by his rival OZAWA (28), and Kiyomiya is determined to begin his counterattack in this year’s tournament.

>With the opening just ahead, Kiyomiya smiled: “Of course, the goal is back-to-back wins. And the record for most championships. I want to show myself as a standout singles player.” Last year, he won his second title, tying Katsuhiko Nakajima’s record. A second straight win would set a new mark.

>Entered into A Block are GHC Heavyweight Champion KENTA, Manabu Soya, Sasaki Ulka, Kazuyuki Fujita, Tetsuya Endo, Masa Kitamiya, and Daga—a stacked field. Among them, he singled out Kitamiya, who has joined the dark unit TEAM 2000X under the moniker “Chairman”: “Watching his matches as Chairman, his rugged fight style seems to have intensified,” Kiyomiya explained. “People don’t change that easily. But it looks like he’s changed completely, so I’m interested.”

>The Prince, unable to hold back, admitted: “I always thought it was me who would close shows in front of packed houses, always leading the promotion forward. And then to have him do that right in front of me… damn it!” His jealousy plain, he added, “Honestly, I’m more fired up than I’ve been in a long time. I can’t forgive it,” staring ahead with frenzied eyes.

>The finals are set for September 23 at Korakuen Hall. Will the Monster and the Prince collide there once again—or not? Asked who he wanted to face in the finals, his expression hardened: “Of course, OZAWA. Come on up here…” he said, clenching his fist. This year he’s suffered two straight losses in GHC title matches, a “tectonic shift” dubbed the “OZAWA Shock,” that dethroned him from the Ark’s center. “Above all, it’s about revenge. That’s why I have to break through A Block,” he emphasized.

>Even Noah’s poster for the league features OZAWA at the center, with Kiyomiya pushed to the side. At the August 25 Korakuen show, his frustration boiled over: “Where did all that ‘Kiyomiya push’ go!?” he shouted in the ring. Recalling that bitterness, he muttered: “No, it’s nothing but jealousy now, seriously. Damn him…” His tightly clenched fist shook with anger.

This year's Royal Road has been the drizzling shits so far.

Sekimoto isn't 100% and his short match on Night 1 may be a sign he's not ready to go full speed yet. Naoya Nomura vs Yuma Aoyagi waa great, best match so far by a wide margin. Best of all Yuma's comedy bullshit was almost entirely absent. Kento vs Mashimo was okay, but it didn't feel like Kento was ever in any danger of losing.

I was hopeful after Night 1 but Night 2 was garbage. Two of the better talents in the company are dispatched by two of the worst wrestling in abysmal matches. Ashino is just never going to get a shot is he? He won the Carnival and was dumped on his head in a short title challenge. Obviously, you want to put the obese black retard over him, Odyssey is so talented, right? Like his matches against...uh... Grayson Waller? pushes ever again. Hideki Suzuki signing with the company was treated like a big deal by AJPW and he's given multiple young talent their best match in the company... so let's have the nepo baby beat him. Remember when Davey Boy won the title? No...? Why not?!?! He held it for 57 days and generated zero buzz!

Night 3 was lackluster. Honda moving ahead in the tournament is the only thing close to a highlight. Xyon is mediocre but it's not like AJPW wants to push Hokuto for even a single solitary minute. It's not like you made a big heel faction that was supposed to revolve around him or anything. It's not like heel faction leaders are ever supposed to get even middling victories. Nope. Eternal midcard tag nonsense for Hokuto. Ren Ayabe is tall, so he will be pushed... shame he has no skill, personality, or even facial expressions. Just a big dull mannequin of a man.
