I have always liked his strong style wrestling.
His backbreaker, his chops when the opponent is between the ropes, his Celtic Cross and his Broke Kick made him look like he was beating the shit out of dudes.
Watching his Henry and Christian and Show feud shows he was working as a face and got pops and shit.
The Daniel Bryan squash completely killed his momentum and smarks are vindictive bastards so they alway kept their grudge.
Good thing he still did well and recently has shown he was always a good wrestler.

With age definitely. It didn't help that his push was forced so nobody cared about him to begin with and his wrestling style was just a neutered PG WWE-style of what he does now, not very interesting. Seems like later in his career, he embraced the strong style man meat slapping and it worked for him. Now his character has evolved to a tough veteran who has banger brawls, pretty based if you ask me.
