It think it’s because there is a period that throws everything off in the early 00s where Pokemon was anti-dimes and immediate social suicide to be seen playing or enjoying in any capacity and did not return to any kind of glory until it became a nostalgic commodity approaching the end of the 00s.
That one 6-8ish year period will probably be the only time it would have sucked to be a Pokémon fan.

The 3DS games began a resurgence after the controversial Gen V sank the franchise to bottom low numbers in sales, but when Pokemon Go came out people went absolutely crazy over it.
With geek shit being embraced by the masses and going full mainstream since then, Pokemon is only growing more popular than ever. That's quite ironic too since every gen is worse than the one before, but that's how it is.
I have the theory that R34 contributes to its popularity too, and that GameFreak are aware of it and capitalizing on it by releasing waifus to appeal to as many kinks as possible. Last few gens have had girls that for the muscled chicks or GILF enjoyers, for example.

DS games were literally the final swan song of the franchise. Gold and silver remakes might be the single best game in the franchise. Black and white 1+2 and Platinum are great. It all went to shit when they went to 3D. Just total garbage.

I agree with HG/SS and B/W and B2/W2 being great, but the Sinnoh games were awful and very derivative from the previous gen, without expanding on anything like GSC expanded on Red and Blue.
